Hello all. I've recently purchased a 70' 142 for a new project car and I'm starting to get the Volvo bug! I've owned VWs all my life but my 01' Audi is being sold and I need a new daily driver.
I'd really like something in AWD for the CT winters and I found a 99 XC with 100k on it at a local stealership for 3000. This sounds too good to be true and I'm wondering if these are reliable cars or should be feared?
I'd really like to have two Volvos in my stable but I may just bite the bullet and get something like an old Subaru. Please lend me your thoughts!

Price seems a little low for that car. A lot of people will tell you to stay away with no exceptions, but these cars are really great if they've been maintained properly. There are three big things you would want to make sure work:
1. Ensure the ETM is fixed, big problem for this generation of car after 99. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.c...iasco/
2. Make sure the AWD system is functioning correctly, then maintain it. Very expensive to fix if it breaks.
3. Make sure transmission is working well, and flush/change the fluid as soon as possible if it hasn't been done before.
As JRL said though... might be a piece of junk. Inspect it!
