Hello all, I am gonna look at a 1998 V70R with 120K miles tomorrow and probably buy it. What are the common issues with these cars? Is there anything specifically i have to pay attention to? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Should have had the timing belt done by this point, see if they have objective evidence of the maintenance. Also PVC operation will be a good indicator on how well it's been looked after.

Check every electrical device in the car. Be sure that all the warning lights
on the dash illuminate when you turn the key before starting. Take an OBD ll
reader along and check for codes. Have a look and a sniff of the oil and tranny.

Check the E-brake. Get it on a lift and check out the suspension and undercarriage.
Look for leaks, check the Nivos and confirm the that the AWD is intact and operational.

More than one R has had it's AWD thrashed. Be sure it has a driveshaft installed.
Take a good look at the tires and confirm that they have matched diameters.
On your test drive, there should be no evidence of torque steer and the car
should take corners like it's on rails. Lane changes under acceleration should
feel solid and predictable.

Most importantly? Complete stereo check! ;)

Report back with miles, details and pics for more input.
