Fuse #6 burned out today, so I cleaned the contacts, applied just a dab of conductive paste, and installed a new 16A fuse. The car started up immediately, and as I drove down the street, and shifted down to come to a stop, as the car was fully stopped, it stalled. I turned the car off, turned it back on, and as I continued to start and stop, it did not again stall. Any help would be greatly appreciated-Thanks!
Arco gas(91 octane) was put in the tank last, so I topped it off with Shell 91 octane yesterday, and it seems to have worked. I am still concerned however with fuse #6 burning out every three to four months.

Re: '92 240 (w/ manual tranny) stalls when coming to stop an ... (1sciroccofahrer)

If the motor mounts are in poor shape then the engine could be shifting as you ome to a stop which could be allowing a bare wire to (briefly?) short out. This could cause stalling. If a number of wires are shorting then this could pop a fuse.
Check all wiring under the hood including junctions, grounds and wrapped harnesses. The wiring deterioration may be hidden from view and it may require unwrapping some harnesses to confirm.
George Dill

Re: '92 240 (gdill2)

It turned out that putting Shell 91 octane solved the issue with the stalling-must have been bad gas from Arco. I am confident that all the motor mounts are good, but just to be on the safe side, I will take another look at them. The thing is though, the stalling would only occur(the few times that it did in fact occur) when I started the car when it was cold, and only the first time I fully had the car come to a stop.
As to the issue with fuse #6 contuining to fry itself after three months, once the weather dries up here in California I will have another look at the wiring, to see if anything pops out at me.
Thanks once again George

I cant say I am a fan of Arco gas. It is cheap though. I have had issues with my 242 and 144es with Arco gas. Texico solved that...BTW. Gas at Shell here in Chicago is $3.13.

Re: (DVolvoguy777)

I have heard rumor of Gas hitting at and/or above $4 this summer. Also, possibly could the stalling have been due to poor injection. I know shell boosts about their high octane having cleansing agents in it, maybe the gas cleared out the system a bit, and maybe think of running fuel system cleaner through the car?

Re: (MenardVolvo)

To be honest, I always use 91 octane from either Shell or Chevron on the '92 244. Even though Arco is, on average, 10-15 cents cheaper a gallon than Shell or Chevron, it has also been less than reliable. My father was driving the car, and was being a nice guy by filling up the tank, but after this experience he will drive a little further to get higher quality petrol. Just to let you know how much a stickler I am for this sort of thing, my '84 Scirocco gets 15/50 synthetic Mobil 1 at every oil change
With gas being as expensive as it is(it is now $3.06 a gallon here in Sacramento), my Cannondale will be put through its paces much more often then just to transport me to training Hopefully the crazy suburban drivers will stay out of the bike lane
Have a splendid Easter weekend one and all

Re: (1sciroccofahrer)

I just bought new road friendly tires for my Giant Yukon MTB, though I have a slight advantage of having bikes lanes where I live. not that people respect bikers anymore cause of the lanes, but I have some space to run if a car tries to run me over.
