Got the cluster out! The main problem was the bezel sunk into the dashpadding.<p>The reason for taking it out was that the some of the idiot lights didn't work at startup or running. Found a bad trace on the board and jumpered around it!<p>Thanks again George.
I must say I am very happy to have found this website for all the help it can provide.<p>Gdill gave on this thread a very interesting ressource guide to 700-900 series.<p>Unfortunately, I did not find anything about the handbrake, in the brake section or others. My 740T wagon's handbrake does not work at all, and I am trying to figure out exactly what I need to do under the car to fix that.<p>Any advice, anyone?
Sadley you will need very soon to do it again. ALMOST all 90-92 740 clusters WILL fail. Mine a 91 is awaiting a rebuilt one as we speak. First thing will be the speedo acting up on and off. Then the OD will stop working. It is ALL electrical internal on these things and can not be avoided. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/frown.gif" BORDER="0"> once I get my new/rebuilt and updated one, it should be good to go for 150,000 more miles. All the issues get fixed they say.
