[Volvowanted]

Which one should it be? I'm interested in either of the above due to the body style, but can't figure out if I should get a FWD or RWD?<p>Bascially I want a 5 speed and add the basic bolt-ons for a little extra power. Which should it be? I've searched and read so much and more confused than before.<p>Thanks

The 8 series is an inline 5 cyl, some with high pressure turbos and some with low pressure turbos. The fastest stock 8 series would be the 850 T-5R (240HP I believe), but those are quite hard to find. An equally swift turbo 850 is the 850 T-5. <p>The 9 series is an inline 6 cyl. with RWD. Choosing RWD vs. FWD is up to you. Some people hate FWD while others like it and have no issues. I think it would be easier for you to find performance mods for an 850.

you wont find a turbo 850 in a 5 speed in the us. <p>I'm not sure, but I dont think they put a 5 speed in the 940s for the us either. I could be wrong about that though.

I could be wrong about that though. </TD></TR></TABLE><p>If it is absolutely between an 8 and a 9, you'll have to compromise somewhere:<p>940s and 960s in the US did not have a manual tranny available at all. The 940 was made in 8v, 16v and turbo 8v variants. The turbo is the performance/$ king.<p>850s were available with a 5spd only in NA 20v form. The turbos and '97 GLT's (LPT motor) were automatic only. Again, the turbo is the performance/$ king.<p>

There are 850 Turbos with 5-speeds all over Canada. You could get one if you're up for a roadtrip...<p>

I agree with you Cabot. The FWD/RWD debate has many issues. For me thou I do not hate FWD. I thou since I grew up and learned to drive a RWD car well prefer its dynamics more. If in future years FWD ar the onyl things out there I will buy and drive one. But will be sad if that days comes. I really feel in any given situation RWD is better. And in some very much better. Thanks for the help. I don't mind FWD and from looking at different videos on the internet they seem to do pretty well with power? I mean, I see guys burning down the street without ripping up the front end. <p>Thanks

I agree with you yannis on this for sure. But like Cabot I mistakenly assumed that Volvowanted was asking about the same vintage(+- ten years old) 9's and 8's.
