Ok everyone, I have a quick question. Would an 850t5 be able to keep up with a STOCK s60t5.

I have a few things done to my 850, which I'm guessing give me around 285 at the wheels. Now, the s60t5s have around 247.

I was wondering if any 850 owners have raced these, are they quick? My buddy just got one, and I'm trying to keep the position of fastest Volvo in the school... I just want to make sure I won't humiliate myself when racing him.

Thanks as always

If he has a manual, and desperate enough you might not leave him in the dust that easily. But with all your upgrades, I do not see how you can lose unless..say..you floor it too hard and don't get any traction during launch.
All in all, I don't think you will lose.

Well, I'll find out by 4:00, which means about 6 hours est. Anyways, I saw him this morning on the way to school... it's a black S60, great looking car with the 17" Tethys on it. He's got the navigation, and the upgraded stereo system. Thank God it's an automatic, haha... gives me a chance.

I'll post tonight, and tell you how it went.

Dude, if you said you had 280 hp a the the wheels, you'll crush him completely, without a doubt. But you would have to have some serious mods to get that power.
What do you have?
ECU?
exhaust
intake
turbo upgrade
throttle body
new intercooler
new internals?
because to have 285 at the wheels is like 330 at the flywheel, and if you run it hard, kiss those rods good bye man.
No, but i really want to know what you've done, i'm currently modding mine up to the threshold, so any bit helps.

Even a slightly modded T5 can handle an S60 T5, I have not been impressed with their launch power due to turbo lag, but man, if you don't launch well either (wheelspin) drive hard man, because that car does spool up fast after 2400 rpm's!

You'll own him, best of luck

HAHA! Thanks David and Kai for the wake-up call. Wishful thinking on my part.

My mods are:

1. Relocated horns
2. Adjusted wastegate (16-17 psi)
3. No cats
4. torque converter
5. PES Chip
6. weapon r v2 intake
7. High octane fuel (big difference, haha)
8. K&N Drop-in filter

I guess that amounts to some nice power... I'm not quite sure how much, but im guessing about 285-290 at the crank.

kai, u give me no time to type here... aiight, here's the race

it was right after school, and we were at the beginning of this deserted street. I had 2 of my buddies with me, and he was alone. I put my 850 in Sport, and the light turned green. I gunned it, HUGE MISTAKE, and my tires spun for about 2 seconds, then I got traction, and got LAUNCHED forward. He was out in front, and I started catching him at around 40. He then pulled away until about 60, when I caught up and passed him at around 75.

We did another run, this time I didn't gun it, and slowly laid into the gas. He had me off the line, but at about 20 he could no longer catch me.

On the last run, he did a neutral drop from about 2000 rpm, and I floored it, we wanted to see what would happen. We both roasted our tires for about 5 seconds, then got launched. He kept up with me until about 35, then I pulled away.

All in all, I beat him. Good times, he can not take my car's title away, "fastest volvo in school" haha...

good luck to everyone, and David, what are you planning to do to your 850?

Good job on the race man!!!!!
Just the fact that you found another Volvo owner into speed, get him hooked on aftermarket, you'll make a friend for life!!!

Well, here's what i've done/doing this summer.

DONE:
*Weapon R Intake with custom box/direct hose
*SPG9 bored/polished/knifedged Throttle Body
*Custom made full exhaust system 2.5 downpipe, highflow cat, dynomax muffler.
*Just Purchased OMP Strut brace (will be painted black/anthricite to match Titans.

SUMMER:
*SPG9 Upgraded Turbo compressor wheel, bearing, port polish housing/inlet/outlet
*Level 10 Torque converter
*PES or IPD custom ecu (accounting for turbo, dp, throttle body)
*Magnacore wires
*350cc injectors
*Denso Iridium Sparkplugs
*New IPD antisway bars

It'll be a spendy summer, especially if i get my front end and trim painted, but hey, it'll be one he11 of a car eh?
Again, good job on the race

Of Course!!!!
I have made many a friend there (and a couple of friendly enemies KAI!!!!!! just kidding.
Yeah, great sites, no doubt about it.

I'm now just trying to figure out where i want my ecu to come from, and who to do the turbo work. PES said to contact GIAC about a custom set up, since they are the programmers(giac) so we'll see what they say.

Have you checked RICA engineering www.rica.nl, they're claiming some pretty high figures for their chips. For a 1995 850 T5R they're claiming a boost from 240 to 304 hp. And a torque boost from 330 Nm @ 2200 RPM to 420 @ 3200.

I've been thinking about getting their chip for my 96 t-5, for which they claim the same upgrade as your t5r. Of course, I don't know how true those figures can be, because those are some pretty aggressive numbers.

BTW, what are these car's HP #'s at the wheels?

There are quite a few European tuners with more aggressive programs than our tuners in the U.S. See www.sct-tuning.com or www.bsrab.se or www.heicosportiv.com or http://www.mr-tuning.de/(they have a new kit to show boost on the guage cluster) also check out his t5-r wagon with ~330 hp and ~358 ft/lbs torque.
Some of these tuners have some cool body acc too.

The problem isn't the agressiveness of the program, but allowing for a higher cfm turbo, and overall, kicka$$ airflow through the engine. I want the chip to "know" that it's shooting fuel through 350cc injectors, and that the compressor wheel is conciderably larger, clipped, and spooling up seriously fast (i hope)

So i know of a person that is offering a good ecu, but my first option is direct contact and development with GIAC,we'll see what they say.

No aggresiveness is not the problem, its the answer to those of us who want the brutal force of full boost at a certain rpm on up that the milder tuners can't supply. The best results for you with the higher flow TB and injectors is to spend lots of time on a dyno at the tuners shop so he can optimize a particular program to your cars needs. Most chip tuners tune for a stock car or a car with their exhaust, so if you have other add ons thier program may or may not give you what your looking for. Keep us posted as to what GIAC says
