My '97 850R is making a "hollow" sound in the right front wheel. I hit a small bump in the road and it sounds as though the whole wheel is going to come off. I've taken it to two dealers and they can't tell me for sure what the problem is, the struts are good and it appears that the bushings are good as well. I paid one dealer $350 for a "it could be...", which did nothing to solve the problem. The only other thing I can think of is the wheel berring. Help

Try replacing the lower A arm and ball joint assembly. (One piece) Its about $125 wholesale from the dealer and takes 1 hr to install using a floor jack and normal hand tools. Mine was making noise at 160K miles which sounds like the one you describe.

Check that your links at your sway bar are good as well as the bushings for the bar, get car on a jack or even better a hoist and grab the bar where it meets the link and check for any play in the socket of the link or the two bushings that hold the bar to the subframe. Links are known to fail, get a good grip of it to check it properly.
