Hi everyone - I'm thinkig of buying a new car next year, so I was wondering, what has better handling/performance, the 850 wagon or the V70 (old)? I'm going to try for the newer models, so like a 1997 850, or the last model year for the V70, so any comments? How does the V70-R stack up against the 850-R?

The V70R is AWD. That's good, especially with the weather you presumably get up there.
The 70s are also a little more refined than our 850R. There's less road noise, and handling on the base ones is even pretty good.
They're more expensive though. A V70R is still wellover $20K where you can get into a good 850R, even a newer one for sub $20K pretty regularly. You can get a high mileage 850 Turbo (older) for less than $10K if price is a major issue.

I'd say V70. The dashboards are slightly updated and look a little more "refined" as compared to the 850. although they R editions are great no matter what year.
