i think it is something like 140mph. mine really hums and it is as smooth at 100 as it is at 35. if you are thinking of buying keep in mind the annoyance of electronic and automated gadgets breaking every so often. do not go to dealer unless you are wealthy or have no mechanical know how. i've had my '96 automatic 850 r about 1.5 mo and love it SO FAR.

well, I know pretty much everything about the car, my parents have an 850 turbo wagon, but I just needed to prove some people wrong on something, so I was gonna send them a link to this, I know the 850 Turbo tops out at 155 without the limiter and 150 with it, and the 850 R tops out at 162MPH without a limiter, I just needed proof besides my own word and I can't find it on many websites, I also know the dc is .32

850 turbo tops out 147 mph, t5-r 149 mph (c/d numbers). turbo 155 mph for road and track. there doesn't seem to be a speed limiter, just drag limited. 130 mph speed limiter was added when the 850 became 70-series.

I have to confess I've never got my manual R up to a steady top speed due to lack of empty tarmac.
However I did get to 130 with still strong acceleration on an empty motorway when I spotted traffic in the distance and had to back off.
The R should do around 150mph, with variations according to wind direction, tyre expansion at speed, speedo inaccuracy, etc.
Above or below figures will reflect these and other variables.
Frankly, it's not how fast it goes, it's how it gets there that I like!
