Hello fellas,
I just got myself a '96 model 850. She is in very good condition. I am still in the process of breaking her in. Could anyone here tell me where her engine block number is located? I hear it can be deciphered from the VIN number? I want to be sure she still has her original engine.
Thanks

Its on the timing belt cover near the top looking at it from the passenger side to the drivers side. Its white with a bar code on it. There should be two stickers.

Re: 850 Engine Number (Obio)

It is also stamped on the block on the passenger side near firewall. And no it can not be deciphered from the VIN you have to get this yourself off the engine or timing belt cover (if it is still there). I don't think that a dealership can tell you if it still has the original engine even with this info.

Re: 850 Engine Number (Ognar)

I know this is kinda off topic.... but if your engine number sticker is missing from the timing belt cover, do you know if the dealer would have a replacement sticker? Im actually missing most the stickers under the hood. I think my power washer had it in for them.

Thanks fellas. Will check it out. I'll give a feedback on Monday. Meanwhile, where exactly is refered to as the firewall?

The firewall is located aft of the engine between the forward part of the dash. Made of sheetmetal. Its that wall that seperates the engine compartment from the cabin that all the hoses and wires enter from the engine compartment.
