I am totally new to the writing-in-a-forum-thing. (Long time viewer, first time writer). But everybody here seems so nice and friendly, it has been a pleasure to observe and learn. Here is my question: There seem to be a number of companies making aftermarket ECU's. IPD, Upsolute, Eastern Aerospace etc. I would love to hear the feedback from people's experiences. Is there one to steer clear of? Is there one ABSOLUTE MUST! (Hopefully, this will spark some neat discussion.)

I was trying to get an upsolute chip in my 850 turbo, accept the guy stop responding to my emails.... I would steer clear of eastern aerospace though....I have heard nothing good about them, and i emailed them asking them a question a long time ago and never got a response....

Here are some other companies ive looked at...Rica..(hp claims are high....dont know if they are true..) PES...a little less expensive then the rest...(cept upsolute)

search the forums though...this topic has been discussed before...

I guess most people would tell you, and I agree, that you can't go wrong with the gear that ipd sells. You pay a premium, but you buy fine products from them. I thought, read, asked, for over a year before I bought ipd's computer upgrade, and haven't heard anything negative about any of their stuff. I bought an ipd ecu and plan on buying their exhaust system soon, as well as bars when they're available again. Happy searching!

I have been very happy with my ipd unit. You will need and exhaust system as well think of it as a package.

This summer i'm going to get the BSR system. They also have high power claims (290), but their system also comes with an intake/heat sheild and is almost half the price of the iPd. I'd really recomend an exhaust with a chip though. The iPd is exelent and isn't "too loud" at all, and sometimes too quiet if you ask me. I think a bypassed cat will take care of that though.

I thank everybody for their feedback. I am looking forward to hearing even more. I think I am in a similar boat as Austin. I used to own an 850 t5r with the Bilsteins and an IPD. Somebody totalled it last week. I got a 96 850r and I subbed out the Bilsteins and the TME exhaust. I just figured that while I was doing a little work to it, I would add a chip to it. I too ahve heard good things about the BSR chip but haven't really known where to get it. I have also had a similar experience regarding the Upsolute chip - they never called me back either. Of course I have heard marvelous things about IPD. I guess I was just wondering if there was another (reputable) firm that made an ECU upgrade comparable to IPD (though you certainly can't beat their customer service, they have never been anything but the nicest and most helpful.)
