Hi guys,
I was just wondering in what section does this site include the 780s?
I had this fascination for this Bertone coupe since the early 1990's, before the C70 appeared on the market. I plan to own one one of these days... probably when I have a larger garage Of course, the 4L Turbo is of much interest.
Anyone have some experience with this car?

Re: (780_Bertone)

I'm just especially interested in that car. I find it very nice, different and exclusive. I will probably try to get one next year.
I saw yours was for sale. You did quite some mods too!

Re: (LucasC70)

Dan - or anyone else.
I currently have a 1991 740 Turbo wagon with the B230FT engine. As I said previously, I would be interested in buying a 780 next year sometime. I have spotted one hell of a nice (blue on black) 1989 780, spotless, near perfection. The only problem is: it's a friggin' V6 (which runs well though, and has never seen winter).
My question: if I eventually want to get rid of the V6, my 1991 740T engine could go into the 780, right? It is, as far as I know, the same engine as the 1991 version of the 780 (called a Coupé). Is it difficult to do? Is the car frame, even a V6 version, able to receive a Turbo transplant?
Thanks for answering my questions.

I know for a fact that the swap can be done.. If you have both cars side by side for the transplant, it would help. I believe you would just need to change out the engine cross member from the 4cyl to the v6 and use the 4 cyl motor mounts. I believe you might also have to swap out the electronic systems, but not to sure about all of that. mechanically, it is easy, as long as you know what your doing. maybe someone can chime in who has actually done the swap. mine was a 4 cyl when I bought it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and I hope that you end up with a 780!
-Dan

There is nothing wrong with the V6 - very good engine with a CHAIN. It does drink a little too much and definitely could use some more power. Look into Supercharging the V6

Re: (swedishiron)

Uh? What's a CHAIN?
I didnt know you could actually supercharge a PRV-6. Do you have more details on this? It could make my buy more easy...
Incredible to think that engine was considered, at 145 hp, a sports engine by the makers of the Dorelean, which shares the same PRV-6 engine than the 780...
True enough, I heard and read that the V6 engine needed more attention: oil has to be changed more often, and valves need special care.

I have a 780 with 286,000 miles. By chain I mean a timing chain so no timing belts to worry about changing. Mine uses very little oil. Mid range acceleration is great, low end is OK. The distributor cap is way easier to reach then on a B230FT.

At the time, we were replacing LOTS of valve gear in the PRV V-6 motors. The rockers would wear prematurely and eat the cams. Would happen at 90,000 miles like clockwork.
Have the remaining V-6s been modded in this area, or is it still a problem?
Brad Cole
2000 V70
