7500 mile Factory Scheduled Maintenance?

1119 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  tomkat73
Folks - bought an 08 OSD C70 T5 6spd MAN in August. Took delivery in GOT in Sept...drove 829 miles in 2 weeks in Southern Sweden (great trip BTW).

Sat on the dock and boat until it was delivered to my local dealer on November 14 - and have put a grand total of 2700 miles on it since then (20 top down days in the Seattle area so far this year).

Soooo - now my "Schedule Time for Maintenance" warning message pops up when I turn the key...goes out after a minute or two.

My question is this - since Volvo only pays for the first Factory Scheduled Maintenance visit...and recommends this at 7,500 miles - what am I risking if I put this off for a few months until I'm closer to the miles interval?

Dealer sez they use Mobil 1 - so that's ok. I think.

Any advice from the S40/V50 peanut gallery would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have an old post that tells me how to reset the maintenance required warning. Just not sure I want to do that just now.

Asking this group cuz it's kinda quiet on the C70 forum...and you guys have way more fun and experience with the T5 drivetrain.

I also own an OSD 05 V50 T5 AWD. 56K on it now - still looks and runs as good as new...'cept for the Beige Umbra T-Tech interior - which I just can't seem to keep clean.

The message comes on by time and mile intervals. You set the time interval by driving it in sweden which was quite a few months ago. Your fine. The oil they put in the volvos from the factory is high quality should still be ok.

But what you need to beware of is that the 7500 service can expire. I would call the dealer and see when that is. Then either use the service right away or just pay to get a LOF before hand and then use your freebe later.

Reseting the light is easy for the time being:
Turn key to position 1
Hold trip button when in trip 2 position untill mileage clears.
While holding turn key to position 2
Wait about 10 seconds and the center yellow light will flash
After the first flash release the trip button and you should be good
If you hold it to long it would work but make sure it at least flashes once.

Thanks Kyle. Will give my dealer a call tomorrow and check on the expiration date of my 7500 mile FSM. TC

Repeat after me............I will not follow a 7500 mile interval on a high pressure turbo. That said, the freebies are sometimes adjusted for low mileage drivers.

i'm sure a lot of other lights turn on momentarily when u switch your car on. u need maintenance when the light stays on when you're driving. wait till it turns on or until you hi 7.5k

If it staying on for a minute or two (versus a few seconds after startup), it is telling you to schedule service.....and with regard to waiting until 7.5K, only if it is a lease.
Re: 7500 mile Factory Scheduled Maintenance? (tomkat73)

Volvo will only cover the scheduled maintenance within 1500 miles of the interval, and only within the number of years of coverage. You're fine on the latter, but the mileage is far, far away. They'll service it for $$$ at any time if you prefer.

The indicator would seem to be coming on very early. It's programmed for three events, actually - mileage, time, and engine hours. I bet yours is programmed wrong. Personally I'd take it in, just for that. They'll check it out.

BTW MagoonR, the turbo in the S40/V50/C70N T5 is an LPT.

Touche........but I still make the same interval assertion.
Re: 7500 mile Factory Scheduled Maintenance? (MagoonR)

I dont recommend people following the 7500 interval either, here we recommend services every 4k miles using volvos syntec blend program. The oil is like poop brown when you wait 7500 miles to do services lol.

And the service interval can be changed however the dealer may charge you the minimum half hour charge to connect to VIDA.

What! There's a turbo in my C70?! Damn! Thought I'd bought a D5 Diesel! Was wondering what that whining noise was when I stepped on the gas!

Yup - lots of lights, bells and whistles when I turn the key. Backup sensor freaked my out the first time I backed out of my driveway. "Book time for Maintenance" warning stays on for a few minutes after starting my LPT.

Thanks again for the responses and advice, guys!

Stopped by my local dealer today and talked to a Service Advisor. He said 1st FSM is a 1 year deal...but they fudge a month or miles one way or the other.

He said the "Service Maintenance" warning has been a glitch in some Volvo models - so he reset my warning display while I waited (same procedure as ForceFed posted above).

Told me to come back when I was a little closer to 7,500 miles. I'll likely take Kyle's advice and have a LOF change at 4K...and take advantage of the "free" 7,500 service at 8K...as long as it's still within the year (9/1/09).

I'll also get my DRL's disabled - so I can upgrade my 'stock' halogens to aftermarket HID Bi-Xenons and/or LED 'smiley' lights.

I have the factory 35w Bi-Xenons in my 05 V50 T5 AWD - can't believe I went so long driving in the relative darkness of halogens. My 08 C70 was a rare 6sp MT OSD "in stock" model - so only option I added was Bluetooth.

Don't think the S40/V50 community can help me with a small C70 annoyance. When I take the top down - the last thing that happens is that all the windows roll up! What's UP with that?

When I take the top down...I want the windows to go down...and STAY down! I wonder if there's a software download via VADIS that can fix that.

there are a few guys here that have had their oil analyzed after 7.5k and its come out fine, just because it's brown doesnt mean it's lost its protective properties
Re: 7500 mile Factory Scheduled Maintenance? (max power)

Please let's not have another discussion about when to change the oil. There are as many opinions on it as there are subscribers.

Tomkat73 - I'm sure the roll-up behavior is intentional. I bet it's a safety feature of some kind. There may or may not be a way to override it, but for sure only your dealer can do it.

Out of curiosity, do the windows behave differently with the top up vs down? For example, do they stop "early", etc?

Tom.
Re: 7500 mile Factory Scheduled Maintenance? (tmtalpey)

Tom - I agree...it's intentional - and some sort of weird Volvo safety logic.

Reminds me of those signs you see on Roller Coasters - "Please keep all body parts inside the car" I guess Volvo once again wants us C70 owners from ourselves by only allowing our heads to be exposed to the elements when we have the top down.

MY 08 and 07 C70's have an extra set of window buttons below the individual buttons (I've heard the 09's lack this feature). Anyway - I can lower all windows with one push on the extra 'all down' button (whether top is up or down).

I can also lower each window with one push on the individual window button (again - whether the top is up or down). Now here's the weird part.

Extra "all up" button needs to be pressed and held to raise all the windows at once...whether the top is up or down.

Individual buttons only require a touch up to roll up all the way (whether top is up or down). I give up - will ask about a possible reprogram when I take it in.
