Alright guys, the only Volvos I've owned are fwd, and I had always assumed that the wheels on the newer fwd cars would never fit an older rwd Volvo.

Yesterday, I saw an 850 with 740 5-spoke wheels. I've never seen these wheels on an 850 before, so I figure they only made them on the rwd cars. I thought that maybe this was an older car with 5-lug, but it was a turbo, so it probably had 5-lug.

Does anyone know the wheel offset and bolt pattern of the two styles of cars. That'd be cool if all the new 17 and 17" wheels would fit a 240 or an S90.

740 wheels won't really fit on an 850 because of the difference in off set. The 740 wheels would stick out and probably rub the outer edge of the fender. Going the other way, 850 wheels on a 740 would mount too far inward, causing the inner edges of the tire to rub. With the use of spacers, the wheels can be moved outward so they don't rub on the inside. 740 wheels are 5x108mm with 25mm off set, and 850 wheels are 5x108mm with about 35-40mm off set (except for '93 850s that had a 4 bolt pattern, 4x108mm I think). Here's a picture of a pair of 240s with 850R wheels:
