Want to convert your pre ‘90’s 700 series Volvo to manual transmission? Now’s your chance to ditch that slush box and enjoy shifting for yourself.
I am selling a single 700 series transmission swap kit. This kit includes a used M46, Clutch, Flywheel & Pressure Plate, Crossmember, front ½ of the Driveshaft, Master and Slave Cylinders, and associated Hydraulic Lines, Shift Lever, Interior Trim (black plastic) & Shift Boot (black rubber), Clutch & Brake Pedals, as well as the pedal assemblies. The OD wiring harness is also included, however the OD relay is not. If you have an AW71 (Automatic with hydro/electric OD) then you are able to re-use that relay. ’90 and later models will require a hall effect sensor equipped flywheel.
All parts were pulled from a running but wrecked 740tic, and are known to be in operating condition. I pieced this kit together only to have the buyer back out at the last minute. The kit is located in Napa, I will deliver within 50 miles if you cover my gas. Price is $700 firm, but will sell to highest bidder if demand is great. I will knock off $50 in exchange for a good AW71.
A digital picture of the kit is available upon request. I need to sell this quickly as money is getting tight, but am unwilling to take a loss.
Paul Demeo completed the conversion and detailed how he did in this web article:
http://www.geocities.com/p_demeo_2000/conversion.html
Please respond via EMAIL.
-Isaiah
[email protected]

The bellhousing is the same, but the shift lever location is different. As well, the driveshaft coupling is different. 740's use a rubber doughnut looking bushing with six rather large bolts to connect the transmission to the first half of the driveshaft, where as 240's use dual metal flanges with four bolts.
The crossmember is also different.

M90's are great.
IF:
You have about $1,000 to spend on the transmission alone.
You dont mind importing replacement parts. (no way are you going to be able to get a set of seals or syncros from your local volvo dealer)
If you have money to burn, go for an M90.
M46's are good to over 250ft-lbs of torque if treated with respect. If you abuse the transmission it will die, no matter what torque you run.
George, if you want to convert your 240 to a manual transmission I could set up a similar kit, except using a 240 as the donor.
