I'm curious what other 1800's owners see when they look at these numbers. There is the Chassis #'s on the firewall opposite the VIN plate, then there is the VIN #, then there is the engine # stamped on the block, then there is the number plate behind the rear seat on the wall dividing the trunk from the interior. Should all these match?
My chassis number is 11729 but my VIN is 11673 and my engine is 3999..
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: 61-66 P1800S VIN< CHASSIS< ENGINE #'s?? (64pvolvo1800)

The numbers usually won't match at all. The sequence stamped into the firewall is the actual VIN -- the type code, followed by the serial number. The ID plate should match the type code only, and there is no serial number on it anywhere. The painted plate on the fender is the body number, which was just for Volvo's tracking that body during manufacturing. Engine numbers are completely separate from the cars they ended up in.

Re: 61-66 P1800S VIN< CHASSIS< ENGINE #'s?? (Phil Singher)

Glad to hear this bit of info. However, I have a the same VIN on my VIN plate as I do on the firewall. I have seen some VIN plates without a serial number though. What makes the difference o r when did they change the method?

Dunno... I don't recall seeing a serial number on an ID plate, but if they match, I wouldn't fight it

Phil is right about the numbers. The VIN is stamped in the body by the battery post and should match the other location and your title!
I've never heard of or seen a plate in the rear. Please post a picture of it or email it to me.
Your right about seeing some 1800's without the VIN number on the plate located on the pedal housing. The VIN was dropped from the plate around 1966 and then the vin appeared elsewhere. The later cars had a small plate on the windshield post and those in the middle had it near the radiator support.
See the information I provided on http://www.v1800reg.org for more info on your car.
