While watching I've been catching some subtle and not so subtle political jabs from Hollywood. I don't usually like it when actors get up on their soapbox but the one I just heard seemed appropriate.
Laura Linny's acceptance for her work on the HBO miniseries "John Adams." Her last comment - " I want to thank all of the community organizers that started this country." -- or something to that effect.
I am looking forward to the debate friday night.

I never expect anything less, its hollywood.
I'd love to see what would happen if a conservative actor stood up and supported McCain.
THe emmy's were pretty mundane.
The last time i watched the oscars people were up there saying things far more up-front and personal

Re: 60th Emmy Awards - Political comments (VolvoMax)

Max: It was a joke. By an ACTRESS. It was funny. But that was all it was. It doesn't mean any more than that.
WHO is ginning up his resume? Some actress?
I am not worried about the state of the campaign. The American people don't have the stomach or attention span for 60 days of hard-hitting campaigning. We barely want to spend 10 minutes onissues. We'd (all) much rather debate whether Palin is a liar, than discuss any of her policies while in office. I think the Obama campaign has been right to be taking it slow.
I have great faith in the Obama campaign. Beating Hillary was far harder than beating McCain. But there is time left, and who knows what other tricks McCain has up his sleeve. Maybe Sarah Palin will get pregnant, again. That should get some more votes for him. Or maybe the Iraq War willmaraculously end. No, that gets too close to actual policy discussion, so that isn't really a "win" for him.
Most Americans aren't like us. They pick their new car after two weeks of research, not after spending weeks and weeks discussin ghte upcoming models on a message board. They'd rather watch Idol than debate the issues that you and I and others beat eachother up about. That's their perogative, I guess.
But you do have to get to them before they cast their absentee ballots, though I think I saw something that said you don't really campaign to those folks, since they are very committed to their candidate (or they would be waiting until the end). They are not the "independents" that we hear so much about.

McCain supposedly is, though his calls for the firing of Cox show him and his people to be absurdly idiotic, OR they think the public needs a scapegoat and Cox is an easy guy to pretend to throw under the bus. He'll understand, after all, as a loyalist. I am betting on the latter. McCain's people are NOT stupid.
The only stupid people are the ones who call McCain's people stupid, that is for certain.
