I realize that there have been discussions about pretty heavy vibrations in the car at this speed and the tires involvement. However, when my upper engine mounts were replaced (they were replaced with volvo engine mounts) this problem started to happen. I barely feel a vibration but starting at about 60mph the vibration starts to get real bad and at about 70 mph I start to think that the car is going to fall apart! Could it be faulty installation of the upper engine mounts or just a coincidence that this happened at the same time? Also took off the dreaded exhaust bracket at this time. Thanks for the read!<BR><BR>

Re: 60+ mph Vibration (dubyasee)

Is it a "vibration in the car" sort of feel, or a "vibration in the steering wheel" sort of feel?

upper engine mount is not related to your symptom as described.<p>high speed vibration most often is due to unbalanced front wheel(s)<p>you would feel that in your shaking steering wheel.<p>if your steering wheel is "normal"<p>a bent driveshaft is suspect<p>(you waited way way way too long to remove that center bracket <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/eek.gif" BORDER="0"> )

60-70 mph is a classic wheel (out of ) balance speed.<br>The FIRST place you should look at is all the wheels and tires<br>Worn, bent wheels, out of balance tires, etc.<br>A mount really should have nothing to do with this

Try road force balancing of tires. Will cure many balancing ills.

Agree with petew, balance ALL your wheels. Fronts will give you a steering wheel shake, rears will shake yo' booty. Also, if you have Pegasus/stock wheels, trust me, there is at least a slight bend in ALL of them. Just the way it is with wheels that soft. I've actually never serviced a straight one, unless I took it out of the box myself.lol. Good luck!

Yeah i am getting the shake my booty vibration that volvodrummer described. I will take the car to get a "Road Force Balance" like most of you suggested to do. I will report back with my findings. Thanks for the insight.

Re: (dubyasee)

Is the vibration in the steering wheel from 55-65 mph? If so, I believe the cause of the problem may be due to worn control arm bushings.

There is some vibration in the steering wheel, however, most of it is felt through the seat and when my phone is in the cup holder it starts to shake it around so I know it is not just under me.

Does the shaking get worse under braking? I had this problem in my last car and it turned out to be loose control arms, as Bishen mentioned. Put the car up on a jack and see if you can rock the wheel perpendicular to its rotation. If they move, have your control arms/bushings replaced.

I think it can be both, I just remember having to replace my control arm bushings when that happened to me.

Depending on how smooth your roads are, it could be that one of your shocks failed.<p>I had this happen to me. I hit a pretty nasty pothole and got a bad vibration afterwards. Aligned the car, checked out the wheels, everything was good. Alignment shop said that my shock was leaking. It turned out that one of my front shocks was toast!

Re: 60+ mph Vibration (petew)

In response to the bent driveshaft. I feel the vibration as well before and after I bent my driveshaft. I had my driveshaft re-tubed and balanced and I still feel it, I think its not related.<p>PS: See my other post about the bent driveshaft and a possible law suit in the R-forum. I wonder...
