Devoted to imports, kit cars and replicars, this show was established in 1986. In 1996, a showfield for the young enthusiasts driving late model import and domestic compact cars was added. Due to the growth of the custom compact portion of the show and in order to retain prime showfield spaces for import & kit/replicars, it has become necessary to separate the two events. In 2001, the Carlisle Custom Compact Nationals takes place May 3-5, 2002, but the show with the major Volvo showing is still the Import Kit/Replicar show on the 17-19.
Featured is a large corral where individuals offer their cars for sale. The import swap meet and kit manufacturers area provides a huge variety of parts, supplies, body components and memorabilia all within one location. There's also a show area, where you can preregister for teh showfield. A $10 preregistration fee will allow two adults adn one vehicle into the three day event all weekend. That's important, because it costs more to spectate unless you are alone and only attending one day. It's worth it, because you also get more chances to win the giveaway car on Sunday, which isn't anything all that great this year, but it's still a car (replica of Mercedes roadster, kinda cheesey).
Also, mention Swedespeed as your club. If we get like 25 members there we'll get our own tent.
Last year, VCOA also had a tent, and buffet lunch on Sunday for members and some lucky Volvo owners who they shared lunch tickets with.
There's also bank and notary services inside the event, as well as camping on the grounds (yes, I've confirmed its availability for this particular event, but it is first come first served).
Last year it was a wide range of Volvos. Many were stock, but some were quite modified. The swapmeet area also had plenty of parts on hand, specifically for older cars, though I saw some vendors with some of the newer wheels as well.
You can find more info on this and other Carlisle shows at http://www.carsatcarlisle.com .

You goin up the whole weekend Kai? BTW, figure this. The show starts Friday and goes through Sunday. Saturday is normally the big day.
If you are into the compact car scene, there's also a show over in nearby Hershey, PA (about 30 min from Carlisle) called Import War. That show is on Sunday.

Then depends on how the crowd turns out on Sunday, if none of the 'dealer' guys can make it for Sunday..I probably won't stay too long.
Yeah, that Import War thingy, I saw the pamphlet of it last year and I think they also had that event around the same time as this Carlisle event. I'll drop by on Sunday if I can find few other Volvo owners to go with me. Gotta show the import boys what's up.
You going to be there the whole time, George?

I'm up for a Saturday caravan, and perhaps a Friday caravan if there are enough people.
I think I might spend Sunday at Sumitt Point Raceway for the Jefferson 500. That's only if I'm not too sun burned from Friday and Saturday!

Well, I can't not meet Yannis, so I'll be there Sunday. Actually, my neighbor and I will be riding up (he's trying to build a Cobra replica). I'll put the Volvo in the show area both days, so look for the dark gray 245.
There's a chance I'll be driving an Audi A4 Avant, not sure on that one. We have one booked, but I don't know if I'll have the car or not. If so, it'll be a new body style, and I'll park over by the Volvos. I'll keep stopping back by the car.
Saturday I'll definitely have the 240. I'm undecided on Friday right now. I'm thinking about it. We'll see.

HAH, I probably won't bring the mutt. I could, but then it's hard to go shoot the show, and Sunday I'll be driving the press car most likely and I don't wanna get dog hair in one of Audi's cars.

I'll be up in the morning. I don't know how late I'll be staying, but they give away the car at like 3PM or so, so you may want to stay for that.

I just got back from the show. It was pretty good for a Friday where I expected fewer cars to show up. The Volvo section was slim, mostly consisting of some REALLY nice older cars. There was a stock looking blue 122, a baby blue modified 122, a metallic blue 122, a nicely restored (or original?) '58 444 (split windshield, before the 544). Irv's 1800 was there, and I finally saw the 1,000,000 mile badge on the grille. There was another really nice red 1800, a blue 1800 with a B21 engine, and a smooth red 140 that was there last year, except it's now wearing 17x7 Volan wheels. I also saw a blue '73 164 and a gold 1800, both for sale in the vendors section.
The "new" Volvos were a modified dark blue '92 245, my car, a stock gold '86 244, a blue 245 from Rolling, and a V70 XC.
The Saab section was well populated, from a dark green Sonnett to an '01 9-3 Viggen. Lots of 900 Turbos too, and a few 9000 Turbos.
Some of my favorite cars were the BMW's. A silver '76 2002 with WIDE flared fenders and a built performance engine. There was also a pearl white 2002tii with bolted on flares and some orange/blue graphics that fit the car perfectly. A fine example of my favorite car was also for sale in the venders section, a beutiful black '88 M5.
Remember that hideous silver Miata with a rear end from a '50s American car? It's back, and it looks much better. The fit and finish of the panels is 100% nicer than the last time I saw it, but it's still not pretty.

Ok, the new plan is to meet at Romano's Macaroni Grille at 9:45 now. This is due to the rain. So Micheal and anyone else going, that's the plan. Kai and I will be there.
Rob
