I was all over this, but it got delayed and delayed and then the big trip was already done, so I decided to not worry about it until the next oil change.
Now my car is due for oil and service, so I asked about having the 4G done at the same time. The service advisor said they could do it, but really really don't want to. He said all the cars they have done so far keep coming back with issues.
What the......... I though this was all FIXED! Dang it!

Your dealer seems to be telling it like it is. Perhaps it's still too early to throw money at this issue, and until the issue is resolved, rely on old-fashion methods of monitoring the car's condition, starting the engine and unlocking the doors.

Also they probably don't like fixing the same car 3 times and dealing with irate customers.

I had the 4g upgrade done on my 2016 S60 a couple of weeks ago. Although i did not automatically get a PIN, necessary to set up in Volvo Cars app, a quick call by dealer to Volvo got one sent to me. Volvo Cars app and On Call worked immediately. But there has been a MAJOR problem, still unsolved, with my 4g internet through att. The dealer reports Volvo is working on it. See my post in this forum for details.

After paying $500 I got so frustrated with my Volvo dealer and Volvo corporate that I sold the Volvo and bought an Audi. Really pitiful service. I've owned half a dozen Volvos over the years, but this 2017 was the last.

no issue with 4g upgrades i guess your dealer have lazy or not qualified workers to do the job or they want more money and they know that they wont get much for that. Software was fixed long time ago i even got letter from volvo that they worked out all the bugs with the soft and they did 4g recall so you will get software for free .

I mean it works zero amount of the time without getting it done. Personally I don't understand the value in the app, but if it's something you like, I'd say go for it, but know it's Volvo software and they're prioritizing their bigger problems at the moment, like the app not working well for the new cars.

The value to me is the safety part of the system more than remote starts.

I'm 100% sure I spend money on things other folks do not value and they'd think I was out of my mind, so sorry, no judgement intended. The accident safety is mostly hype. The odds of getting into an accident where you are both unable to make a call and no one around you saw to make a call and you have cellular connectivity just seem incredibly remote. I'd be curious the number of times an automated system was the only contact made over the history that we've had such features.

The reason we have the car is my wife's previous car was hit by a drunk in a truck and she was injured and not able to use her phone. A paramedic happened to be nearby to get help, so it all worked out, but it might not have.

Exactly.. .there is nearly always someone nearby who can help. Investing in a home AED machine would probably be far more likely to save a life.
