Up to date information on this show will be added to this forum.
We are now lookint at April 27 (Sunday) as the time for the show. I'll know more in about two days, but it appears as if we may relocate from Annapolis Volvo Subaru to Sandy Point State Park at the western foot of Maryland's Bay Bridge and also the place of the Volvo Ocean Race Restart Festival.
What this will mean is MUCH more people checking out the cars, and a location right in the heart of the action.
There'll be a $10 charge for all cars wishing to compete in the show and all judging will be done via voteing by a ballot also handed to all show car entrants.
This fee will be given to a local charity that is yet to be determined.
I should have more details by week's end regarding official times etc. but I'll need help from you DC Baltimore area guys in spreading the word.
I could also use the help from others in cross posting the final info to other message boards. I don't want to spam other boards, and it could be taken that way if I do it.
This is an event for Volvo enthusiasts. It's not a Swedespeed only thing and it's not an Annapolis Volvo only thing. So you don't have to taught it as such. We're organizing it, but we'd like to make it as big and as broad as possible as we're trying to reignite the local Volvo enthusiasm and Florida is a bit too far away for some local Volvo owners.
For those going to the VCOA event in Florida, I'll ask you two things. First, we'd love to have someone contribute a story or photos. Second, we'd also love someone to take some flyers down to the show and pass them out or lay them somewhere where people might find them.

Okay, I've spoken to VCNA and we're working on having some of their vintage collection at the show. This collection includes the Hogster TP21, a P1900 roadster, a 444, a 445 pickup, and a Jacob. I don't know if we'll get all of these in attendance, but it looks as if we may have several of them.

That would be really cool to have some of the older cars there. I don't think I've ever seen any of the ones you listed. The 1900 Sport would probably be the one I'd want to see the most.

Another update, we're just about confirmed that there'll be an XC90 there as well. I hope to have concrete info by week's end so we can start the blitz on letting people know.

George,
if you do have any fliers/posters, send them along to me. I can post them everywhere in our dealership; both the showroom and service are high traffic areas; we have (on average) more than 20 people visting the showroom daily and more than 70 customers servicing their cars, daily.
Yannis

Hi George,
The date you mention for start with is my birthday and i was thinking of coming to Uncle Sam over that weekend. It would possibly be great to come and see some of the guys of the board with their motors, via a detour for the weekend. I also follow normally the around-the-world race.
Just for info the 27th is on a Saturday !
Mark.

Yes, for now it is Saturday, though I'll correct it if it changes. I'm reliant on the dealer I am working with, who is organizing the location part of the event.
It'll be nice to have you if you can make it.

Actually I mispoke. I need to confirm. The sendoff party in Annapolis is Sat and Sunday, though the main show n' shine is Sunday. However, we may have the vintage Volvos both days. I should have an answer by week's end.

****Update****
I just got some new information. As we knew, Saturday and Sunday are both festivity events at Sandy Point State Park for the Volvo Ocean Race.
They are expecting thousands of people to attend. Our show will be a small part of this, and to what extent, we are trying to figure it out. One good aspect of this is that it will be a nice event for even the non car enthusiasts and there'll be a lot to see.
Sunday is also the Bay Bridge walk for charity. This second part could cause complications to do our show on Sunday. It may require us doing preregistration for show cars so that they can get in, or it may require us to move the show to Saturday, and anyone wanting their car on display Sunday might need to leave it there.
We're working with VCOA to get the vintage cars there, in addition to some of the newer stuff, probably including an XC90.
I should have more by week's end.
[This message has been edited by [email protected] (edited 03-14-2002).]

For anyone who's not been there before, getting into, out of, or anywhere near Annapolis on the day of the Bay Bridge walk is a nightmare. Folks should plan accordingly. Rt. 50 in particular can backup pretty bad by late morning.

From a conversation I had with a fellow Volvo owner, I heard the same thing. We're going to probably end up doing this Saturday with the Volvo vintage cars there both days if I had to guess. I hope to have more info tomorrow.
George

Being in the business, Benj, Yannis (I am assuming) and myself cannot make it on Saturday for the obvious reasons. What is on the agenda for Sunday. What? Where? and if someone could please post directions if coming from the north.

Well here is my dilemma, and for you guys who are with dealerships, please advise. I'll be making more calls to Annapolis and to Volvo later today.
Our ability to get cars in on Sunday is seriously compromised. Unless they are left there from Saturday, we are almost certainly out of luck. At this point, Saturday is up in the air and I am waiting for a confirmation.
I could pull the trigger and just go back to the original idea of holding it at the adjoining lot next to Annapolis Volvo. That'd work either day, so we're okay there, but the trouble is that Volvo at this point has agreed to bring down the vintage collection (you can see some of them in our NYAS gallery). I don't know if they'll do that for a siginificantly smaller attendance level that we'll have at the dealership. With the cars down at Sandy Point, they'll get the exposure.
Hmmmmmm. Gotta think this one through. Yannis, Phil etc. if you have any suggestions, I am more than willing to give them a shot. I haven't written anything down in stone but the weekend and the town right now. I'd really like to see you guys there if we can pull this off.

Or close to Annapolis Volvo? Both Saturday and Sunday? Or..what is taking place on Saturday and what on Sunday? I am definitely coming over on Sunday, provided there are things to see and of course...you guys! But I am not sure what is really going on on both days...your dilemma is WHEN to exhibit cars?
Obviously, you have got to do what is best for the whole show and hopefully we will be able to fit in the whole thing and get to see you guys...
Phil, are you going down in the Benjimobile?
Yannis

Well, the original plan was to go Sandy Point state part with the Vintage Volvos on display all weekend (Sat & Sun) and our show on one of those days. Which day wasn't important, and we wanted you guys there, so we were thinking Sunday.
Then I got word that the Bridge Walk is that day and Sunday at Sandy Point is out. So, I can pull the event to Annapolis Volvo which would make it much more intimate (just Volvo owners) or try for Saturday at the park.
If the park isn't on the docket at all, I'm not so sure that Volvo will bring their cars down. And, I'll find out today whether Sandy Point is doable at all for the show. It got more complicated than either we or Annapolis Volvo thought it would in having it at Sandy Point.
Thus the dilemma.
