Okay, I spoke to my contact at Annapolis Volvo Subaru today. I'll be calling him back next week to confirm details, but it looks as if we'll be holding a Volvo show on this date in Annapolis, MD. This is also the same weekend for the Volvo Ocean Race to be in port in Annapolis & Baltimore, MD.
So the question is, how nuts do we go? Here's what I'm thinking.
Come up with a name...
Promote on other Volvo boards, local dealers, local indy Volvo shops etc.
We'll do awards I think, and see if any of the Volvo-oriented companies care to contribute prizes, but I'll only ask this if it looks like we'll be getting a decent interest in the event.
We should try to promote it with VCOA, VSA and the Washington Volvo Club. Also, I'm going to contact Volvo regarding having their own vintage cars on hand (they'll be in FL the week before for the VCOA FL event, but they're kept in Rockleigh NJ, so I'll try to divert them into Annapolis, maybe see if we can get an XC90 on hand also). Again, a lot of this depends on response to the event, and we'll have to scramble to make this happen.
I'll also probably devise a flyer to run out of local Volvo businesses. Any other ideas? Name ideas?

Oh yes, we were thinking of doing like a $10 entry fee per car entered in the show (free to spectators) and donating to charity. Contrarily, we could just make it a free GTG also, but I like the idea of a charity.

George,
I'm in. Err, or I would be if I didn't have plans to be out of town that day . I guess the Duett will just have to wait a little longer to get out of the garage. I don't have a problem with a reasonable entry fee--it will lend credibility to the show and help you with pre-registration/numbers.
Hmmm.. now if only my plans would change...

This sounds like a great idea. I don't think anyone would object to an entry fee that goes to a charity.
If you do come up with a flyer, I can put a few up at the local shops. Will you be contacting the Don Beyer dealer(s) to see if they'll sponsor? I personally would not put flyers on cars because I don't like it when people put them on my car, but the Swedespeed business cards slid next to the window should be OK.

I'm leaving town this week, but I'll try to post updates.
I'm going to approach other Volvo dealers, but being as this will be held at Annapolis Volvo, I'm not entirely sure how successful we'll be with anything more than allowing us to drop off flyers. We shall see though.
Sorry to hear you can't make it Duett, but thanks for the name ideas.
