Flash Engineering, team operating the factory Volvo S40 in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, will run a Volvo S60 in the European Touring Car Championship at Anderstorp in Sweden on 29-30 June. Jens Edman, the Swedish driver who has been involved in the development of the S60, will drive the car for the event.
The car, third Volvo S60 on the grid, will be loaned to Flash Engineering, based in Karlstad, Sweden, for this season and was built by Prodrive, the Volvo ETCC works team. Plans for the races following Anderstorp are not final, pending the finalisation of finances, but a strong possibility is that Jan ”Flash” Nilsson, will drive the car in the German and Belgian events. The Volvo-owned car will be sold at the end of the season.

Olle Odsell: Volvo motorsport director
”We are keen to have private teams running the S60 in the championship. The Flash entry is an excellent start and I hope will contribute to Volvo’s score in the manufacturer’s championship. We have the Prodrive works team running James Hanson and Rickard Rydell and are pleased with their performance and the development of the car given the budget available. Additional points from the Flash team finishing in the top six will also be very welcome. It’s great to increase Volvo’s presence on the grid. I hope it sends a sign that the championship is growing and that the manufacturers watching will be encouraged to join.”

Christian Dahl, team boss at Flash Engineering:
”We see this as a great opportunity for us at Flash Engineering to learn about the car for next year, when the ETCC regulation will be adopted in the Swedish Championship. We already have our own personel at Prodrive learning about the car and we will also run a test with the car in Sweden before Anderstorp, so our team will be well prepared”.
