I used to think just like you. Blackstone changed my mind. See my thread below. 10,000 mile intervals are fine because the oil shows plenty of life left and the metals show the engine isnt harmed

http://forums.swedespeed.com/showth...sis-Results&highlight=Blackstone+oil+analysis
Adding another:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?220051-Impressive-V8-oil-analysis

The Cliff's Notes version is: 100K+ mile V8 with 8600 miles on the oil, Blackstone thought the oil was "recently changed", maybe a few thousand at most. HAH!

I subbed that thread. I also wonder, after reading through it, how much of the time driving was the car driven spiritedly as in say upwards of 3K RPM? I rather enjoy revving up the T5 and it sounds especially good with the Borla exhaust, do you think this will effect the oil much or still be negligible? I guess the only way to tell is an oil analysis.
If you are actually overheating your synthetic oil (280F+), you will shorten it's life. But honestly you'd need to be doing proper track day sessions to get your oil that hot.

Even a run down a 1/4 mile drag strip is not enough WOT to get your oil noticeably hotter.

The trip to TN was 11 hours straight, and I had it on cruise at 79 MPH the whole time. At that speed the engine is turning at about 2500 RPM. There was no traffic so it was hours and hours of extended RPM's. Add in the 90 degree plus outside temps in August, in the South, plus all the idling mentioned in the thread and it was probably the hardest 10,000 miles the car has experienced. Oil was still good. I agree with Warped, unless your tracking the car I wouldnt worry.

Go the 10k and send the oil out. Test was $30, and it saved us $100's in the long run.

Chris,
Just wondering, what year Volvo and model do you have and which engine is it equipped with?

I have an update on my situation. To recap, the low oil light came on at the 2000 and 4000 miles. Then again at 6000 like clockwork. So I took it back. They again did the oil consumption and compression tests. They also did a vacuum check. Volvo authorized the dealer to replace the motor as they couldn't determine the issue. So, the block, heads, cam, crank, pistons, oil pan were replaced. All the accessories, intake, exhaust, cam cover, hoses etc. were reused. They had it a little over two weeks. I took it in on 12/29. With the holidays, the need to have Volvo to provide direction, the need to deliver the engine core and the accessory work took until 1/14. Seems ok. I'll be sure to monitor the oil level!

Thanks, do you plan on running the 10K OC intervals or?
Motoretro
I will most likely settle into 4k or 5k intervals with full synthetic.
