Our wagon has a matte black stock roof rack, which while not as heteful as the chrome one, I'm thinking of upgrading if I can.
I've noticed newer 900 and 90 series cars have a more modern looking rack that is body color.
I also know older ones use a rack that appears to be identical to mine. So I'm naturally wondering if these newer racks will fit a 245. Anyone know of someone who's done this successfully?

First thing to do is measure. The 240 is very narrow, so I doubt you could easily fit a roof rack from a 7/9 series car.

That's the great part of it. The newer ones have no cross bars, just the front to back. I'm going to take a tape measure along next time I go up to auction where I know there'll be a couple of them. I'm a little apprehensive about walking up to somebody's car with a tape measure.

That may work, but the holes in the roof will probably be spaced differently. I like the ones that attach to the rain gutters, or at least I think that's how the bars (load bars?) fit on the 240s that don't have the roof mounted rack. It would be nice to have the flexibility to move the bars anywhere you want them.
I would definitely use a fabric/plastic flexible tape measure if you're approaching strangers cars in the parking lot. I wanted to measure an 850 rear spoiler, but I didn't want to get "caught" looking like I was doing something to the car.
