reading ebay and autotrader ads for wagons, one sees one or two low mileage wagons listed, and sold, every two weeks at $7-10K.
Anyone have general knowledge that 60-80K mileage wagons are actual mileage or bogus mileage cars?? Is odo disconnect difficult or simply done on a 245? establish a bell curve $/mileage/number still running?
Does digital photography have a 245 detail software program?

Re: 240 wagon mileage? (datakoll)

well actually the odo disconnect is so easy the car usually does it by itself. the gears typically break, therefore people think it has fewer miles then it actually does. and im not entirely sure what that last question is

With the 240 engine, mileage does not matter as much as history. one owner? two, three? Mechincal records? Buying it from an old guy, or college grad? I bought my 92 245 w/ 196K on it, a bit much for its young age, but its at 220, and running no problem. As camyman said, the odo gears snap easy, so many might have broken or inaccurate mileage.

Alright! I can't take the pressure! I admit it!!......the odometer on my car is about 300 miles off. When my odo gear broke, I sent the whole speedo out for repair & recallibration. The 300 miles was the approximate distance I drove without the speedo in the car.
There!....are you satisfied?

Re: 240 wagon mileage? (SL8Brick)

ok. I'm a '67 onward 544 owner. vandalism required a rebuild of the replacement factory short block/head from Kundert, vandalism ruined the original at 180K miles. At 90K the factory replacement has round unworn bores. on the other, commuting down the mtn into W-B from Sullivan Co. flatend 3 tires.. i know too!
but looking at "as new" 240 '90-93 wagons with "60-80K running miles" for $8-10K does give one pause.
it is reasonable to expect a few 240 were "Mom"or secretary or schoolteacher driven as second cars but still....
the used car buyer's dilemma to the nth degree.
I dont know that many 240s are worth $8-$10K. $4-$5 is a better asking price. I paid $1900 for mine, though as I said it had 196K, not 60-80. Still, someone asking that much is asking too high.

i did a bit of research and for that same price you COULD get the mayonaise yellow 850 R. probably the rarest of the rare, i dont think more then 500 were made worldwide. As if you WOULD thats an entirely different story.

But I do understand datakoll's concerns.
I purchased my `93 wagon w/72k miles in 1998 for $8k. At the time, that price was considered wholesale. The car even had some minor body damage and needed a few mechanical odd-n-ends.
About 3yrs ago, I had a collision w/ a deer and I thought for sure that insurance would total it due to decreased value(then, 150k miles). The body repair came to almost $4k and the insurance co. didn't blink. They approved the repair and I got the car back in better condition(new hood, grill, headlamps, ect) than it was before the hit.

It doesn't seem that there are many 240 out there with working odometers. I don't trust any of them. The one in mine quit twice in 5 years.
Then again, who cares? Mileage doesn't scare me with these cars. I bought mine with (at least, ha) 198k and it's been quite reliable.
