Hej Swedes! I've been in my new 2022 XC60 for just a few days time. I noticed my phone gets usually warm (6-7/10 hot scale) when sitting on the charger. I tried removing phone case, which helped a bit, but it still gets usually warm. I don't have any issues at home using a wireless charger. Phone placement is proper, in the middle with both top & bottom reinforcements in place. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

The owner's manual addresses this and says, "Some cellular phones may become warm during wireless charging. This is normal." lol

"Hot scale"..... you're being specific and precise with a made up scale that isn't fixed to anything...

I haven't had anyone complain to me about it but what sort of phone do you have?

XR iphone w/ all currently available OS’s & in a ’21 XC60 for 4 months & now after 6 months in my ‘22 I’ve had sim. warmth but w/ ZERO effects on anything, so a non-issue for me.

I have an XR, and I've noticed that it only ever has thermal management issues when I put a case on. Maybe consider the caseless life (risky) or one of those backless cases that allows for better heat dispersion. You can purchase a rear glass protector in that case. Makes the phone lighter and sleeker too!

Understood/thx but as mentioned the warmth is a non-issue/meh for me.

When on the charger, is it also in use (e.g. car play)?
My XR has always been 100% functional on the charger even w/ the thin case on it since 2019 but CarPlay hasn't been rolled out w/ an OTA update yet in my AO 2hrs. east of DFW.

My iPhone 12 gets very warm (hot even) when on the wireless charger (with or without case) on my 2021 XC60 T8 Recharge R-Design. The wireless charger pad is also in direct sunlight through the windshield. It has been my experience that the wireless charger takes FOREVER to charge my phone…and since there is no Wireless Apple CarPlay (I use Bluetooth), this may also contribute to my hot phone.

I rarely use the wireless charger anymore. I have a ProClip driver’s center vent mount - and alternate between using a black USB Cable to “charge only/Bluetooth“ or wired CarPlay depending on whim and need.

Yes! I would say border line hot. Just before you get that iPhone error message saying iPhone is too hot. Thank you

Just like when you go to the doctor, they ask you describe your pain on a 1-10 scale. I would saw a 10 in this case would be the iPhone displaying the “iPhone is too hot” message.

The heat when a case is on has more to do with the fact that it has to work harder to wirelessly charge than heat dissipation (though it certainly plays a roll). Good suggestion on the open case. You can also buy cases specifically designed to transfer that through even though they are closed.

Sent from an annoying phone using unbridled frustration.

When I had an iPhone Xs, I tried to adopt wireless charging but it was making the phone so hot that few years later, I still don't consider wireless charging.

Can you try charging your phone wireless at home and see if it gets hot in a similar way? Maybe it is just the wireless charging concept making it hot and when you add the constant vibrations in a car, it gets even warmer?

IPhone 12 - in it’s case - does NOT get hot when charging via USB/Lightning Cable, NOR when charging using MagSafe wireless charger.

Again - Volvo’s placement of the Wireless Charger in “Direct Sunlight” through the windshield contributes to the “overheating while charging” problem. My iPhone 12 overheats while charging on the Volvo pad at night, too - and no Apps are running while charging.

i‘ve taken my iPhone 12 out of it’s case to charge it wirelessly on the Volvo pad - still overheats.

Ok. We’re in the same boat. I’ve tried it on a wireless ikea lamp charger, and doesn’t get even a small fraction of the amount of heat that it does on the Volvo charger.

Same with my 2021 XC60 T8. Not only does my iPhone 8 get very hot it takes forever to charge. I just use a plugin charger, way better and fast!
