Hello!
my car is three weeks old. I NEVER use Air conditioning . Ever. I don’t know if this has anything to do with why I keep getting a message that my infotainment system is overheating. And when I get that message the fan turns on and hot air blows out of the sir vents!. I am inSan diego area and infotainment system overheats when the outside temp is 80 degrees but also at night when the outside temp is 55 and even 40 degrees. I drive a few hours a day. I thought perhaps it has to do with the fact I never use air conditioning which would I imagine naturally cool the infotainment system but volvo are made to use heat out of the vents so that doesn’t seem it should be the case. No one I know who always uses air conditioning has ever heard of the message appearing on the dashboard saying infotainment system cooling. Anyone know what’s going on? Unfortunately who ever designs These systems doesn’t give us an option to turn the system off completely …

This sounds like a defect. That said, if you have the "vents" on (not auto) that should provide some level of circulation. But, I would definitely record and take the car in. I have driven these in 100+ degrees and they didn't overheat. 50 degrees with no air, shouldn't be an issue. (they are actively cooled anyway)

We live in San Francisco, and it's never very hot here, so we rarely run our A/C. This happens regardless of outside temps, and I'm guessing has to do with direct sunlight plus not having the A/C on. We're taking it in next week to have it looked at. Am hoping there's a solution here.

Thanks for posting this. I was in Phoenix in November when I first got the car and never drove more than 30 minutes at a time for the first few weeks and I don't remember cooking the infotainment center warning coming on or the hot air. When it began to happen it was in Southern California in End of November and all December but only after I drove for an hour which was my three times a week route If you were to post what you learned it would be welcome. There is a polestar forum that had this discussion and someone in similar climate fo you where it doesn't get too hot said theirs went on also. My question which I haven't yet gotten answered by Volvo is what is the thought behind designing it this way.

@SteveB67 i was told by someone at Volvo that the message cooking infotainment system is only in the 2021 and 2022 owners manuals and not in the years before

Thanks Nicole108. We'll post what we learn from the technician, and if there is a fix. It certainly seems like it's the infotainment system overheating and the system is trying to cool itself down. Just strange as it's not hot in the car. Volvo has their new "Google-enabled" system for this model year and perhaps Volvo installed an underpowered processor that has to work too hard. We'll see.

I had that Issue and many others with my XC60 2022. Most where solved with a software update.

Seems to me might be worth turning the AC on for a bit just to see if it makes the issue go away…

There’s been some kind of thermal monitoring in the infotainment system for a long time now - my ‘11 threw that message and shut down the screen/music one day when I had an engine cooling system issue and was driving with heat on full and windows open to get it home.

I know this thread is older, but I wanted to chime in after searching for a fix.
I have a 2018 XC60 T8. I have taken this to the dealership several times because of this overheating issue. I live in Phoenix, but when it started happening, it was in the 70s outside, so I wasn't using A/C. I even took the ambient temperature (with phone app) of the car cabin because it was making the inside of the car so hot. It was 76 outside and 84 inside (this was while I was driving down the road to work on the freeway - not after it being parked in the sun) - go figure!
Now that I have spent the past two summers here with more than 30 consecutive days above 110, I've had it! The A/C doesn't even seem to cool down the cabin when the infotainment system is so hot you can't touch it!
Has anyone received a fix from Volvo?

We just leased our new 2024 XC60 on 1/2/24, I have only had the car for two weeks, and I have had the same issue happen twice now. The instrumtent panel will say that the inftainment system is over heating, and needs to cool. When I hit the okay button for this to do so, hot air blows out of the vents. Mind you we are in Janurary the coldes months not needing any AC. The weather has been in the 40's in the morning, and lowe 30's at night. Does anyone know, if there is solution for this? I do not want to go through the summer when it get's in the 90's here in Orange County.
