why is the epa mpg lower on the 2017/2016 vs 2018+?

I was talking about the T6 rather than the T8, but TY

There are generally improvements in engine efficiency between model years - not sure exactly what Volvo has changed but it could include programming/timing, reduced friction (linings, etc), and/or even transmission improvements that wouldn’t be documented in standard specs. If software, they can often be cascaded to older models but would not change the EPA published ratings as those aren’t republished. Volvo is known for making the changes retro active when possible. These kinds of changes are pretty common between model years for many manufacturers and sometimes they also often come with HP increases.

Oops, sorry about that. I think the EPA changes are still applicable even T6s.

I am fairly happy with our 2019 T6 mpg (although the cost of premium does offset). Unless we are blasting AC we can get 27-28 hwy
