Sky Vehicle registration plate Wheel Car Tire

Hypnos is the Greek god of sleep and we all love our sleeper Volvos. Mine is a white four door Volvo sedan that also happens to be one of the monstrous cars you could ever get from a Volvo dealer.

One Saturday I was sipping my morning coffee and browsing AutoTempest, much like I'm sure a lot of you fellow addicts do, when I saw something funky on the grille of this S60. It said "KPAX". Now I'm not nearly as familiar with the P3 platform so I sent my buddy some of the listing's pictures. He was ecstatic, pointing out the wheels, the big brakes, the exhaust and explaining that this wasn't just a modded enthusiast's car, this was a whole package. So I did some digging and sure enough this KPAX thing is something else.

Hypnos didn't just have the "GT6" package, it also has the giant Brembos and slotted rotors. This kit was only available at a limited selection of Volvo dealers and there just aren't very many of them out there.

So I leapt at the chance. I drove from Ventura (North of LA) to Marin (North of SF) that very day and bought Hypnos the next morning. Hypnos is a very well optioned S60 T6. It's a Platinum R-Design and while it does have the Climate package, parking sensors, a rear camera, and BLIS it does not have the Technology package. The BORLA exhaust is a little much, but it's too cool to hate. Initially my very vanilla self was interested in getting some OEM Volvo wheels, but these unique BBS are growing on me.

So far I've had a nightmarish experience with Safelite getting the windshield replaced and an equally frustrating appointment with Volvo for some minor recalls, but those are stories for another day. Hypnos is a magnificent car and an absolute dream to drive.

Gorgeous car! I love those KPAX cars a lot. If you decide to go to a tamer exhaust (ie: IPD or the like) let me know!
Hahaha as much as the BORLA offends my subdued sensibilities my buddy, the guy responsible for getting me back into Volvos and the guy who recognized what this car was, would absolutely kill me if I dropped the exhaust or wheels. I'm already struggling for permission to get a little softer suspension :ROFLMAO:

I do not blame him at all! I've been looking for a used unit for a while. Missed hearing it the hour after our test drive in a GT6...

@WagonBoiz I am 95% positive this was my old car, fill free to ping me the Vin and I can confirm, I live in Marin and traded my Kpax car (same color and spec) in 3-4 years ago. I heard it went up for sale again recently.

When I bought it, the Volvo Marin dealer was a certified Kpax authorize reseller and I had them put this package on the car.

Finally fixed my highway speed vibration. It wasn't an alignment, wheel balance, worn out suspension, a bent rim, or even the tires. It was just the dumb spacers. A simple switch to the Viva Performance 10mm hub centric kit and it all vanished.

I'm guessing that when Volvo installed the BBS Wheels and big ole calipers back in the day they needed a little extra space, but unfortunately they just slapped on some extremely basic lug centric spacers. Don't use lug centric spacers kids!

Hilarious, considering my local Volvo dealer refuses to do any service to my car requiring wheel removal due to my BBS wheels having the PFS system (hubcentric rings).

I'm just about at my wits end with my local dealer (Volvo Santa Monica). My first experience was for open recalls (seatbelts, keyless entry) and I showed up for an appointment scheduled months in advance only to find out they hadn't ordered the right parts (4 passenger side locks). Living 90 min away I took a rental home and they valeted the car to me 3 days later. Seemed like "all is well that ends well" until that weekend I took the car out of the garage and noticed a full on puncture on my passenger seat. Clearly someone had something sharp in their pocket while they were working on locks/seatbelts. I reach out and they blow me off saying there is no proof.

Then a month or so ago my ICM died and my local indie understandably didn't want to do the diagnoses/replacement so once again I am back to these goons. It took them nearly 3 weeks to come to the same conclusion that I did with VIDA/DICE and a few minutes: dead ICM replace the part and we are good. They refused to just do this without taking apart both bumpers and checking pretty much every electrical system that talks to the ICM. This turned what was for many users a $1400-$2000 bill into a $3200 travesty. When the car was ready I just so happened to have finally come down with COVID (dodged it until now) and so the car was valeted back to me again. When I take it out a few days later I find bits of plastic and loose screws both in the compartment behind the waterfall and in the passenger footwell. I'm now also having a rattle which sounds like more loose screws behind the ICM and the entire ICM screen is crooked!

You'd think that living in a bedroom community north of LA I would have a plethora of choices, but Volvo has been gradually retracting into LA over the past decade. Ventura Volvo, Thousand Oaks Volvo, and now Bob Smith in Calabasas all closed leaving us only with dealerships in the richest areas where they are just used to charging absolutely obscene prices and treating the peasants like trash.

Edit: Just wanted to add that between my local indie, which is made up of the staff from the Ventura Volvo dealership that closed, and the wonderful people at Bob Smith Volvo I never had any negative experiences with maintenance prior to Bob Smith closing. While of course dealership parts/labor was expensive it wasn't obscene and they didn't ever mistreat me or do shoddy work.

Replaced my tablet emulator setup with the unit recommended on here. Stashed box in glovebox as demonstrated by the illustrious @p.rico

A bunch of little things coming soon. Elevate/kpax spoiler has arrived and must be painted. Then side scuff plates, polestar shifter, and a few more bits and bobs.

Those who know me know that I have spectacular luck when it comes to getting free upgrades or entirely free items whenever I order things online. Today my evening project was to finally paint the Elevate Polestar wing my girlfriend got me for Christmas. I cleaned out the garage, setup my little painting tent, and finally opened the box. It was not what I expected or even what my girlfriend had ordered.

Instead of the primed fiberglass part she ordered I received the carbon fiber wing coated in glossy. So now I have a predicament.

Do I keep it and use without painting? I kinda think that would look odd as I don't have carbon fiber anywhere else.

Do I keep it and delicately sand the gloss, prime, and paint? Seems like a shame to do so, but it would probably end up okay.

Do I exchange for the fiber glass primed part? Do I really want to wait another couple weeks and juggle all that?

The shifter face on my lady's XC70 was cracked so I just had to get the Polestar shifter so I could donate mine.

I think I'm going to try some 3M wraps for the ugly trim pieces before taking the plunge and trying to swap everything out. Found some promising kits.

Spoiler should be installed soon.

Ended up wrapping the rest of the interior trim in a matching carbon fiber 3M. Pretty happy with my faux-Polestar console

Ooh that looks awesome! Mind sharing the kit? I've got the dark brushed metal and like it, but it has some scratches that annoy me, wouldn't mind checking out a wrap kit.
I got it in the matte black. Definitely get at least two kits in case you mess one of the stickers up. Cheap and you will have replacements down the road if something wears out.
