2015.5 s60 T5 clicking/ticking noise when accelerating

Has anyone experience this issue? I have a 2015.5 S60 T5, when accelerating, I get this ticking/clicking noise for about a second or so. And it feels like its losing power. Usually occurs between 3k to 4K rpm. I feel like I don't get that quick torch. Any idea?

Because I'm obsessed with trying to figure out what is going on, I've listed out all the usernames and models (from what I could tell from your posts) that have reported this issue dating back to last summer in July 2015 when this thread started. I'm assuming there are others that don't frequent the forum. My main reason for joining swedespeed was to diagnosis my issue since the car has been to the dealer 3 times with no resolution.

What I've gathered about the issue:
T5 Drive-E models - S60, V60, XC60, and XC70
Occurs after the initial 10,000 mile service
Gas type seems irrelevant as some run Premium and some run Regular

Who has notified Volvo USA? Who has sought other measures? Who just flat out gave up? Here is a list of 12 usernames / car models that have experienced this issue based on your posts. Have any of you found resolution?!?!

Add me to the list of "Ticking / Clicking Crew" --- And my personal hunch is "Its something with the turbo and or internal combustion" not the transmission

Higher octane gas as well as Sport mode has reduced the frequency of occurrence.
Eco+ mode seems to increase it.
For me it only happens in hard acceleration, didn't notice it until after about 15K on it.

I'm going to try to wait it out a little longer, but i definitely want to bring it to the dealer...
However, I don't want them on a "wild goose chase" changing a bunch of stuff "attempting" to solve the problem they don't have an official answer for.

Please let me know what extension "Betty" has for VOA or any other Volvo US contact... I'm looking to resolve this or at least get an extended warranty if i keep the vehicle...

Right now my car has been at the local dealer for several days awaiting the parts to arrive.
IMHO:
Apparently VOA really doesn't have a clue of how to really address this, from discussing this with several different service managers and the foreman; Volvo is supposedly creating a failure log of everyone who is reporting this issue, (so the more people notify VOA the better our chances are at a REAL resolution.... And until they really figure out what's the real culprit their only offer is to replace the usual "Plugs / Pistons / Rings / Head etc... and 'tweak' the software in an attempt to resolve the problem and "save-face" is how i see it.

I'm starting to feel duped again.... last time it was VW and the "Dieselgate scandal" which I benefited from... but I don't think i will get so lucky this time...

We'll see.... I'll report as soon as i get my car back.
At least until then I am enjoying the nice 2016 T5 Cross-Country loaner.... I think they're trying to get me to upgrade, LOL

***** NOTE ****
Foreman and I believe this issue is engine temperature sensitive, meaning that it occurs more often when the car is cold or has not been running that long, he also confirmed there was a know issue of this related to the original spark plugs that were issued -

I'd like some feedback from other users as to the possibility of cold vs. hot engine affecting this...

Thanks,

The longest respite from this issue I've had was after my first oil change. It does seem worse when it's hot out. Since I got my plugs changed, it seems worse, but it's also been hotter than haydees. I live in Florida. My subjective analysis is that warm weather makes it worse, not the other way around. It is also just as likely to do it one minute after startup as it is one hour after startup.
When and where did you get the plugs changed (I'm guessing dealer?) I'm wondering what spark plugs did they use... more and more foreman and tech's i've been speaking to seem to blame the Octane / quality of gas and the Spark Plugs...

From what I've been tracking most people didn't have a problem until their 1st / 2nd oil change and some type of software update.

And when i refer to the temperature being associated with the problem i mean the temperature of the engine block not the outside weather.

I live in SouthFL and it's ALWAYS hot, and lately I've not been able to reproduce the problem with the foreman in the car...
But Note: I recently use a can of 'Liqui Moly Valve Clean' and since then I can't replicate it on demand like I used to...
People who can reliably recreate this, if you would be so kind as to humor me would you try recreating it with DSTC in sport mode?
When my car 'was' making the "Spark Knock" i was never able to re-create it in Sport Mode,
I tried everything i could to determine the best way to recreate it ; I did notice it more often when I'd first starting my daily commute especially when +ECO is activated.
I have taken my car in 6 times, had a master tech come out and ride with me. They played with the timing of the car, sound and loss of power continued. Finally, they decided to replace the pistons and I got a phone call on Friday- They're replacing the entire engine in the car. I'm curious to know what they found when they opened it up.

-I feel like I have justification that I'm not just some crazy lady that the dealership can screw around with!
same issues as my car. They changed the spark plugs several times and now they're putting a new engine in it.
Hmmm this is interesting I'm wondering if being in California is the reason they are replacing the entire engine.... Instead of the ol' Pistons, Plus, Oil Trap change they're doing for the rest of us...
Just wondering how many other guys have re-experienced the "Spark-Knock" after Volvo's supposed Fix (of changing sparkplugs and updating software - which i believe is the main work done) ?

I don't want Volvo to just sweep this under the rug, thinking we're going to be quiet about a known manufacturers defect.

I was even thinking of getting a P* until I saw people with them were having the same issue :nono:
An attorney has to take the lawsuit. The lawsuit has to be beneficial to owners. Half the time, even if there is a class actions, the lawyers walk away with boatloads of money. The people needing compensation then see the leftover scraps.
Please provide the attorney's info... I'm interested in participating as well
Even though I traded my 2015.5 V60 and bought a CPO 2019 V90, i still don't like the way Volvo NA handled the "known issue" fortunately the local dealer and their mech staff really did everything they could and continued to do so consonantly replacing rings / spark plugs etc...
