As many of you may know, the 2012 National VCOA Meet will be held in St. Louis, Missouri this summer and will be sponsored by the Gateway Chapter. We had a planning meeting this past Wednesday, and many good ideas were discussed. Any and all help for this event would be appreciated.

The host hotel will be the Chase Park Plaza, and the main venue will be held in Forest Park. Many fun events are now being planned for this 3 day meet.

More information to follow, and if you are interested in attending, volunteering, sponsorship, or need more information, please contact Glen at [email protected].

Make your plans now to "Meet Me in St. Louis"......

The meet is coming together nicely and we expect to have registraton open on the VCOA.ORG site by the first of February. We toured the meet location and the host hotel this past week and were blown away by both venues. Forest Park, the site of the show, is the site of the 1904 Worlds Fair. It's over 2 square miles in size and is also the home to the St. Louis Zoo, the Art Museum, and the Missouri History Museum. You can learn more about the park here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_Park_(St._Louis,_Missouri)
The Chase is a hotel built in 1922 and has all the charm of that era. The guest rooms are 2 room suites. All meet attendees will be provided with complimentary covered self-parking. Also, just outside the door is a pedestrian streetscape that looks like it came out of a movie. Lots of nightlife for those interested.
The Gateway Chapter has set its sites on providing an outstanding weekend for all the participants.
The specifics will be published here once they are finalized. Meanwhile, feel free to drop me an e-mail at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Thanks for the post George. The pages on the world fair are fascinating. I do know that several of the Olympic events were actually on the Forest Park grounds. So much history in the area, and so much to see. Really tough to get it all done in a day. Incidentally, the host hotel has agreed to extend the special VCOA rates to three days before and three days after for folks who want to stretch this into a vacation.

It's a flurry of activity here getting ready for this - and we are looking forward to providing everyone with a memorable show in one of the most family-friendly cities in the country.

Good show!

I just began my mass email sendout (50 addresses per email to miss the spam filters).

Takes me about six days to cover the 800+ Volvo Lovers in my contacts (about 60 are outside the USA).

Below is the text of the email I am sending. I am posting this in case I made booboos giving me time to fix and resend.

Thanks.

I'm looking at attending the 2013 event in VT but have never been to one. What time on Friday do these typically start? And when do they end on Sunday? Both impact travel (and time off from work) plans.

You can sign up for just the really big show/banquet (awards) on Saturday/night and skip the Friday and Sunday activities.

Friday is a catered dinner (6-10pm) with intros, speeches/presentations and entertainment to include stories from those who had to rescue their Volvo enroute to the Meet and (usually) the Volvo Trivia Contest.

Saturday (9am-10pm) usually sees car prep early, concourse judging, tech sessions, sell-n-swap, bag lunch, traffic cone rally (if liability allows), photo op for all attendees with Volvos and the big awards banquet to include (usually) a major presentation by a noted Volvo Person of Significance.

This 2013 VCOA 30th Anniversary Meet will include a serious hoopla to celebrate Irv Gordon (3 million miles in a '66 Volvo 1800S). He will also be at the Midsommar Meet this June 2013.

For intimate details concerning both Meets keep an eye here...

Thanks for the information George. What about Sunday, how long do the activities typically last?

It was in the March/April ROLLING that I saw the basic information about the VT event. But it wasn't enough to allow me to plan :-(

By noon Sunday more than half the crowd is on the road home.

I always stayed Sunday night to get a fresh early start Monday morning plus the hotel laundry was nearly empty so my blasts back to Texas included back roads and clean underwear.

If a road rally (or similar leaf-peeper event) is planned for Sunday morning the participants are usually up early. The rest of us do the scheduled brunch, swap more lies, watch the rally return, sneak into the award pics then have a peek at a paperback 1967 Volvo parts book while keeping an eye on the indoor swimming pool (today's modern Volvo Lovers are not only young but in good "shape"!).

Since I always volunteered as gopher at the VCOA national Meets idle time was seldom but most folks came and went as the atmosphere is casual and laid-back unlike the Jagwire crowd.
