I had an S40 T5 AWD (same motor, just with a haldex system to drive the rear wheels) with an M66 (same transmission). the motor and tranny are pretty stout. common problems like the PCV getting clogged are well documented and easily taken care of. that car is pretty low in miles, my s40 hit 170k with the only major unscheduled maintenance being the clutch since the concentric slave cylinder failed. cost me $2k.
not the cheapest cars to run as the fuel milage isn't amazing and they drink premium, but they're comfortable, handle pretty good, are zippy and above all are interested and a bit rare.
