My wife and I are considering making a move from an S40 to a 3.2 XC70.

Our S40 is a base model - 2.4i, manual transmission, T-Tek cloth interior, with just the climate package. We are very pleased with the value offered by the base model Volvo's and have located a couple 2009 XC70's with no options. Given the incentives available right now ($5250 cash + $2500 loyalty) on top of the NEA teacher's association discount ($1500), we believe we can get into one of these cars for well under $30k.

There are also several 2008 XC70's still around locally. These generally are equipped with at least the climate package and the premium package. Because of the significant discounts on the 2009's, I am having a hard time determining a fair price for what is essentially a 2 year old car. In addition, I am not sure whether the 2008's would come with the 5 year Safe and Sound program. The advertised prices are in the low $30k's for the leftover 2008's.

It seems to me that the 2008's should sell for much less than the 2009's even if they are equipped with more options. Anyone recently purchase a 2008 XC70 and care to share the selling price before taxes, doc prep, etc?

We were told that the 2008 will get the upgraded Safe and Sound including the 5/60 free maintenance.

Having said that, we did not find that the deal for the 2008 was all that great. Most had significant mileage due to test drives or the fact that it was a sales rep's car. Taking into consideration the tough miles that were on the cars we decided against it.

We ended up getting a 2009 XC70 with the premium and climate packages along with the BLIS for ~32,000. So take off the ~4,000 for our options and you should be looking at ~28,000.

Good luck!
