2008 C70 Question Regarding Coolant Hose and Thermostat Housing

My car currently has 93,000 miles. I was informed that my upper radiator coolant hose is leaking and will get that repaired. My question relates to the engine coolant thermostat housing. My mechanic mentions that I should change the thermostat as well (even though it is still working). If anyone can advise, that would be great!

Thank you.

At this age, I would have it done. It’s only a few more minutes to swap once the rad hose is off, and you’d be cursing yourself if it goes a few months from now.

You can replace either just the thermostat itself or the thermostat and its housing, which is a bit quicker. I just finished a full replacement of all of my hoses two weeks ago on my ‘08, so decided to do the housing as well.

The thermostat housing is what will fail at this age. It’s made of a plastic composite and will start leaking. If you buy a genuine replacement part, it comes with a new thermostat already installed.
