Anyone have their FY07 car/SUV with a Navigation system? We are getting ours next week and wanted to know if it's still possible to install a DVD player that taps into the navigation screen. I'll be taking pictures next week if it would help ...
Thanks,
Cindy

Re: 2007 NAV/DVD ?? (CindyInItaly)

Congrats on your 2007! What model did you buy? XC90, S80, S60?
There are a couple ways to get an auxilary video signal to the NAV/RTI screen.
- disassamble and hard-wire a S-video/Composite Video adapter to it (you have full control this way and although VERY DANGEROUS you can watch while the vehicle is moving, but please don't do it!
or
- get ready to buy mgr Ed's multi-A/V-input system, read about it here (this way the sound and video are controledl buy the Volvo head unit and therefor cuts off the video once you start moving for safety)
LTA
Re: 2007 NAV/DVD ?? (LTA)

We bought the only one you didn't mention lol... S40
I didn't know with the 2007's being a hard drive for the NAV to be loaded on if it made a difference in being able to use the same connections as before. I guess I'll see when it gets here next week if it has changed or not.
Thanks!
Cindy

Hmmmm - did I read this correctly. There's no DVD in MY2007 NAV. It's now a Hard Drive instead. Then how does one load up the NAV map data ? Please explain - thanks.

Re: (barrysharp)

The new interface is much more attractive on the '07s. The 3.2 XC90 I drove had NAV and while the map itself looks similar, the interface buttons looks less "Windows 2000" and more "Windows XP"-ish -- smoother buttons, just generally a better GUI -- now the question is can we retro fit the NAV hard drive via the MELBUS cable and remove the DVD based system. I didn't look at the new hard drive setup to see if there was a USB port or if it was a "swappable" type of drive to allow the dealership to make updates. I'm sure we'll get more details in the coming weeks as more '07s hit the lots.

Re: (barrysharp)

Barry,
To update / change the map info, you have to take your vehicle to a dealership to have the information downloaded to your harddrive. From what our dealer told us, you must take it in every time you want to switch from US / Europe and there is a fee to go along with the change *ouch*. So for now, we're getting the US map loaded and will have to wait until we get to the US to use it *sigh*
Cindy
