Picked up the S60R tonight - initial "still doped up by the new car euphoria" impressions:
- 4C software load in stock car is obviously much better than the crappy "rev 4" software that is in my 2004 V70R. I think that they did a much better job - I don't know if it is because of the faster ECU, or more sensors, or just a longer development time, but it is much more natural feeling. For now I have 17" wheels on both cars, but the 18" wheels go on the S60R tomorrow.
- Sapphire black/nordicap is a great color combination, just as beautiful as flash green/atacama. Flash green probably has a slight edge when clean and in the right light.
- The car came stock with tinted windows, so all my research on window tints was a waste of time. I don't know if this is standard on 2006 models, or standard on the S60R, but I got it on my 2006 S60R and not on my 2004 V70R. I got the laminated side windows on both cars, but only the S60R got the tint.
- Backup radar came with the new car, ugly pimple butt included. I would have avoided it if I could, since I don't like the look and I only backed into one thing 10 years ago (a tree with my wifes Acura Integra) - I guess that I didn't read the option sheet good enough.
- For me, the automatic transmission suits the car better than the manual. The manual V70R always seemed kind of like an awkward teenager - not quite used to the way its body moves, it is kind of a relief to have an automatic. After a few months with the manual, I got to an OK point with it, but I was never completely comfortable - my mechanic was much better with the transmission than I was the time I drove with him, so it is a skill issue that I could never quite overcome.
I can't wait to get rid of the V70R - the lease is up in September, and I have 7500 miles left to use up. Time for some trips to the beach!

I have a very early 2004 V70R (until tomorrow when buyer drives it to Chicago), and a mid-05 V70R.
My initial impression of the 2005 was that everything was smoother, more refined, and even my wife will say that the 05 seems faster, or that the throttle response is better in the 05. Two big differences I noticed:
1.) Throttle response in low RPM isn't as jerky on a cold engine in the '05.
2.) Suspension is more sorted out in the '05 in all three modes.
It's hard to say how or why, since I've been diligent in getting all updates in the 04, but perhaps the nearly 2 years of production time that separate my two V70Rs has something to do with it.
Good luck with your new ride!

Re: 2006 S60R now joins 2004 V70R in driveway... (24Hours)

I have definitely noticed the jerky cold, low RPM throttle response in my '04.
I have what I believe to be the latest ECU upgrades for the 3-4k RPM hesitation (which worked) and the latest TCM upgrades for the slipping shifts (which has not).
Are there any TSB / TNN's that address this issue?

Since the laws very so much from state to state I didn't think they did this. Maybe your dealer added it?

Congrats on the new car.

Quote, originally posted by e1618978 »

- The car came stock with tinted windows, so all my research on window tints was a waste of time. In some states (NJ is one of them) it is illegal to tint the front windows. Maybe the dealer "hooked you up" or perhaps some one else wanted the car & asked to heve the windows tinted & then backed out of the deal and you reaped the benefit.
Have fun!

Please take some pics of your cars together before you get rid of the V.

I was tricked by the darker car and evening lighting conditions. Still - it looks like a 60% tint or something, I may not need anything else, I will see hot hot things get in the summer.

One other difference between the two cars that I have not yet heard anyone comment on - the seat feels a lot higher on the 2006 car (probably because I have heated seats on that one), where you sit lower on the 2004.
I like the 2004 seating position better.
