I had a whining sound coming from the front of the car. It would begin, upon turning the key, before the engine started. I found a blog, on Swedespeed, that suggested it was the power brake booster pump making the sound and it was the power brake booster pump switch that was faulty causing the power brake booster pump to be on constantly. I replaced the power brake booster pump switch and the whining sound stopped; i.e., after replacing the switch, the power brake booster pump began pumping only when the power brake master cylinder needed vacuum.
Thank you to the contributor to Swedespeed for the suggestion.
To anyone reading this blog, make sure you check your vacuum hoses, first, before replacing the power brake vacuum booster switch.
