Re: 2005 V70R 6 speed (JRL)

I thought that I'd found one of the few of these that are out there last month but it got away so I am very interested in this one. So far this is only the second 6spd 3rd seat I've seen. Please let me know any more info on the car.
Thanks

For reference, this one was on Autotrader/Cars.com for $18,745 this month, so it will be interesting to see what it goes for at the auction.

Is that why your name is Euroshifty, to be Euro annoying, Mr. 4 post?
Why didn't you buy it if you're looking for an R.
Price sounds reasonable enough for a 6 speed with a 3rd seat

I agree that the asking price seems to be a fairly good deal although I believe there are better deals out there at this point in time:
1. The '05 Sapphire/Gobi Auto with 52k miles for $17,995 -- reduced from 21,625 then 20,995, then 19,995 and for sale since at least January, which tells me they may be willing to deal -- in Albany, NY
The seller on Autotrader neglected to post any pictures of it when I Snag-Ited it at the beginning of the month, but some may have been added within the past couple of weeks. The name of the seller -- and forgive me for assuming because we all know what happens when you ASSume -- sounds like a shady used car lot, which would be another reason for me to stray away from that particular vehicle.
The point of my previous post was neither to discount what quality the vehicle may have nor to discount the service that you, JRL, provide to this community. It was merely to help spark the discussion that always happens when you post an R coming up for sale at an auction: "What do you think it'll sell for, JRL?" "This car should take XXXXX for the mileage, yada x3."
My deepest apologies for only having posted four times. I'll try to remember, next time, to stick my nose into other threads so that I can pad my post count and earn Brownie Points with you.

Not sure where the T5 remark came from.
At any rate, good luck at the auction. I'll be interested in the final sale price so that I can update my spreadsheet with the information.

I suggest you read around the R forum to understand all about the general R issues.
Don't get me wrong, I love R's as long as they're in warranty and you have a good dealer to diagnose the issues.
After 5 years most dealers dread seeing an R come into their service dept.

Re: 2005 V70R 6 speed (JRL)

I have been reading the forums- mostly here and v70R.com, but apparently not the right parts yet. I didn't think the R's were drastically different than the standard T5 to keep healthy.... at least not enough to cause dread in a dealer.
I've been taking my cars to the neighborhood independent since I moved here, and I'd prefer to keep it that way. If an R means I'm going to have to get out to the dealership with frequency... it's probably not worth the overhead.

Re: 2005 V70R 6 speed (yuri1419)

The problems that "R" owners face are fairly common and R-specific. Yes, there are a few things that share with T5's and other P2's (wheel bearings, TCV, for example), but the big $$$ items are the angle gear (or spline sleeve causing the angle gear to fail), valve bodies (might be a TNN for that though), general 4C suspension issues, headlamp leaks/ballast failures, etc. These things are a LOT more expensive to repair than other parts on non-R cars.
I love my R, but an S60/V70 T5 w/ the sport seats is a GREAT alternative if you can live without the AWD (which is, meh...).
