Hey guys, I am new to this forum. I own the G35 listed in my sig, and before that I drove a modded VW GTI VR6.
What are the most popular and effective mods for the 2.4i S40? Since N/A tuning is annoying, and I can't seen to find many affordable engine mods for the 2.4, would suspension tuning yield better gains? I would certainly love to throw on an intake and exhaust, but the parts I've found do not justify the cost.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Re: 2005 S40 2.4i: Modding help? (03basesedan)

It is harder to find any real mods for the 2.4i, but Sanatarium and a few others (S40boy makes custom intakes for your car) have some cool mods they have done or are working on, hopefully they will chime in. As for suspension I have the blue Evolve springs that give the most drop from springs for our cars. The current trend is shifting toward getting coilovers, but they are a lot pricier (obviously). Good luck!

Wassup man, what happened to the dub? Anyway I've been through trying to get performance mods for my 2.4 but there's no point. I'm kind of glad because that would be more stuff to spend the money I don't have on. Just make it look good and maybe an exhuast from Evolve. I have evolve blue springs on order like my man carrera (their changing warehouses). Don, the head honcho, ALWAYS cuts deals. I might be getting airride suspension for a show in a month or two. So suspension is a must, wheels, and little mods like tails, debadging, dubstop grille etc. Im all about showing off and hitting corners. You know what having a VW is like so maybe you could do your headliner with flannel LOL. I'm trying to bring that style to my volvo to make one dope a** set of wheels....Good luck to you

Oh boy... here we go! Everyone on this forum will tell you that you shoulda bought the T5 (and you probably should have) if you wanted any real power gains but! With that said, you can check out my intake (its evolving from old n' busted to new hotness lol) and the new version will be for sale in the not too distant future! Yields about 3-5bhp and a few ft/lbs... but mostly just sounds really good! Boost in MPG too!
Exhausts... go custom (put on a Borla and smile)
The only REAL gains will be made by a home made turbo / super charger (which has NEVER been attempted due to our computer run car) or Nitros. I know it sounds severe but its true...
Go with aesthetic mods and your girl will be happy.
Evolve Blue Springs
Koni or Bilstein or what ever... shocks
Rear Sway Bar
Front / Rear lip kits
And so on...
Post some pics of the car (with your G35 in the pic preferably) and we can help ya out from there!

Re: (s40boy)

Thanks for all the help guys. When I get home I will post some pics of the cars.
I read through the custom CAI thread posted by Sanatarium(sp?), and I like those ideas. I am fully aware that the N/A 2.4i engine will not gain much from simple bolt-ons, but that's okay, my VR6 was similar and so is the G35 (unless you're ready to spend $$), but I do love the induction noise on the 2.4, and an intake would only make it sound better. I am also impressed with the suspension. I think one concern that needs to be addressed is the mediocre stock wheels.
I'll do a more detailed post later tonight.

I am actually doing a custom interior headliner during the summer. I can't release any more info until I actually have more info though. The plans are looking good though, my car is going to be one very well matched vehicle, lets put it that way.
The intake that the guys above are talking about looks sweet and sounds sweet, a definite must. Like getdown mentioned, the 2.4 doesn't throw out that much power (lets be honest, the T5 isn't a beast either) but our cars look AMAZING with some simple mods. I don't think I have ever had anyone say they don't like the looks or sound of my car, and I have some brutally critical friends. Throw on a decent set of lowering springs, exhaust, and some sort of body kit, wheels (not a lot of choices) and you (your gf) will have one sweet looking S40.

Re: (carreragt7)

Hm. Where to start. I am compiling a massive 2.4i resource at the moment, will be released in the next couple months, should provide more insight into getting power out of N/A engines for the hardcore. What I can tell you now is, go for an exhaust, some good tires, maybe wheels if you and your fiance are into that, and an intake if you feel like it, and put some money into luxury upgrades. Sport steering wheel, maybe a different shifter. You'll be plenty happy

Re: (sanatarium)

Sounds good, photobucket is not loading, so the pics will have to wait for a little.
I know that you've done a lot of work with intakes, do you have any recommendations? I'm considering s40Boy's intake which he is selling for $200. Do you have any input? Is this a good choice? I know that most intakes I've found are primarily for the T5.
s40Boy, for your intake, is the tubing around the MAF the same size as stock? I want to avoid a larger housing becasue I don't want to risk a CEL. Also, what is the significance of the ecu plate?

Re: (GetDown)

The dub was fun. I had an 01 VR GTI with an intake, exhaust, chip, sacks stage 1 clutch, autotech 10lb flywheel, vfe tranny mount, apline audio components/HU, euro rear lip, pizzy clears, and fully clear headlights with silver coated bulbs that still lit up orange. It put down 180ish whp and 197wtq on a dynojet.
Fun car, but I got a chance to pick up the G35 and I took it becasue of the reliability and the fact that it was def. quicker than the VW.
Interestingly enough, if my GTI was stock, it would be a decent race with the 2.4i. The GTI would probably pull as speeds increased, but stock it might be a fun race.

Any guy on here with the 2.4i will tell you that if you tamper with the intake, your going to get a CEL. I get one (on average) once every 2-3 months due to drastic weather changes (that tends to set it off). But really it depends on where you live... (Im in the deep south).
Just tell the lady not to worry about it and put some black electrical tape over it and she'll never know! HAHAH .... For some reason I can't see almost ANY of the pics on this site. I'm not sure if it's a firewall issue or if it's how they're hosted.
Where is that pic stored? I can't even see it but I want to...

Re: (s40boy)

The VR looked clean! I also made the vw ('01 GTI 1.8T w/ a K04 swap) to Volvo transition.
I doubt the 2.4i is going to be quick even with mods but you can never go wrong with dumping the car on coilovers and putting on some nice wheels
Good luck!
