The cigarette lighter on my '05 2.4i is not working. I checked the voltage at the plug to see if the socket itself was bad, but there was no voltage there. I then proceeded to change the fuse (#45) but it was not blown. I check the voltage at the pins in the fuse box and there was no voltage there either. It is my understanding that there is a relay that powers the lighter. Where is this relay located? I assume that must be the culprit being that there isn't voltage at the fuse. Hopefully someone has had a similar issue and can help me out.

I don't know about the relay, but there's another fuse box under the hood that supplies power to the fuse box in the cabin. I'd think that a lot more than your lighter socket would stop working if that were the problem, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Ill check the wiring diagram tomoro but ive never had a relay issue causing the accessory ports to be inop. Almost 90% of the time a blown fuse. Not saying your stupid but just verify that you have the correct fuse your looking at and that you have key on voltage while your doing your testing.

IIRC, the key has to be in the "I" or "II" position for the accessory power to come on. Then check your fuse for voltage.

I checked and double checked the key position and the fuse location. I even changed the fuse, and still nothing. ForceFed, whatever you can find out from the wiring schematic would be great. Thanks.

Did you pull out the Cig lighter assembly and check to make sure it was still connected behind it? That little panel comes out, mine had disconnected once before.

Yes. I pulled the panel off and disconnected the wiring plug from the socket and tested the voltage at the 2 pin plug itself and there was no voltage.

Ok, so there is a relay in that circuit. Relay R18 (comfort functions) as its listed in the diagram. That would explain why you dont have any voltage at the fuse F45 which is right after the relay in the circuit.

Find a similar relay and make the swap to verify that its bad. Odds are that if it looks the same shape and size then the internals are the same and should work if swapped http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Thats great. Thanks for your help. If it's just a standard 30A automotive fuse, I have a bunch of them in the garage...if not, I'll just have to pick one up at radio shack or something. Thanks again for your help...much appreciated.
