Don't really know much about crossbars. Our 2004 XC70 has factory rails but no crossbars. We have a tandem trike we want to put on the rack. It weight 63 pounds. Would like removable crossbars, since this isn't something we normally haul up there. What type of cross bars would be best?

I'm running Yakima on mine...4 bike trays plus the tandem rack.

However, I really like the look of the new low profile Thule bars.

Yakima on a Volvo... c'mon man!!! lol!
Believe me, I do see the...well, this isn't really irony, is it? Perhaps I see the juxtaposition?

No, it is, quite simply, what the car came with. I generally have Thule racks on my cars.

If you want to have something well integrated into the design of the car and NOT look like you are going to a camping trip or on the way to Home Depot to pick up a load of 2x4s, then get the factory bars designed by Volvo. You can leave them on the vehicle all the time and the air resistance noise is minimal. No reason to "make a statement" with load bars, the Volvo bars are almost unnoticed on the car.

regards,

P
