I am looking at an 04 v70 2.5t with 50k. It has approx 10 mos left on the cpo warranty. Is there an advantage to getting the vip warranty when i purchase the vehicle, or can i wait until the cpo almost runs out. i was quoted 950 per year to add to the warranty, 7/100 or 8/100, and was told it could only be done at the dealer i purchased the car from.

If you are doing the CPO extension, that is a time of sale option only.

I ended up extending the warranty when i picked up the car, i figured it was my best time to negotiate. I got the price I wanted. Thanks for the help.

NOT the CPO version. You CAN get the VIP Used Car version, which does cost an arm and a leg.

Well we (Keystone Volvo and I) just did it!
I sold an already CPO'ed 04 with 80K miles (still in the last year of CPO).
Through Keystone Volvo (they actually sold it for me, they have to) I was able to extend the CPO for another year to 7 years total (and 100K). for a stout fee!
So, I'm sorry but it CAN be done

Yes, Keystone sold the car for me, hence the CPO extension over an existing CPO car.
However, what you said makes no sense.
If you can add a year to an existing CPO, why can't an owner add the year to his already CPO'ed car if he wants to, the cost would be the same and as usual, this makes no sense (apples and apples)!
I'm going to have to check on this....you may be right or not I don't know.
However if you are correct, again Volvo has another absurd policy which makes absolutely no sense.
The cost for that ONE extra year costs more than an entire TWO year 100K CPO costs and the mileage isn't extended.
So, if you're correct, this would make one wonder why Volvo wouldn't want the extra money!

The reason you can add a year in your case is because the car was RE-SOLD by a Volvo dealer.
Technically, the car would have to be re-inspected prior to the sale.
This is why Volvo permits adding the extra year or two.
