Tough terms to put into a search engine.

Does anyone know if the 2005+ body matched trim can be used on a 2004 R? I had a very minor fender bender which necessitates replacing the front bumper cover and a piece of the bumper trim on my 2004. Since it's now 7yo, the trim is faded and a replacement won't match. I'm considering replacing it all around which brought up the idea to just change it all out to the 2005+ type.

While I'm at it, anyone know of any front bumper cover alternatives besides the Evolve kit or stock?

EDIT: Re-read your post and not sure if you're asking about just the bumper or the bumper and the moldings (which tend to fade). If just the bumper, then ignore this. Otherwise, read it for info on side moldings.

Here's one way to do it --> http://google.com, type in "site:forums.swedespeed.com painted side moldings"

I have a bunch of links handy (doing an '04 to '05 side molding conversion right now), so here's your reading assignment :)

I'm not familiar with the aftermarket alternatives so I can't help you out there.

You missed this one by Jstro, which IMHO is the best one.

Both Jstro an Devolv R's cars look super good with painted trim. I've always wondered what the hell volvo was thinking making unpainted trim on the 04's. It's a 40,000$ car why make it so Subaru outback.

Black trims look good on several cars like the Silver, Flash green, and the Passion Red. Ti Grey is rather neutral (ok in both), and with Black Sapphire looking a ton better.

Yup. I thought about painting my trim.. But after seeing a one with all the painted trim I realized I like my unpainted trim better...

It's not bad on Flash Green. It also depends if you have the body kit or not.

As much of a PITA it was to mask off and dye the trim, it definitely looked good on my 2004 SR. There was one SS member who painted the side moldings but left the bottom moldings black........which also looked good on the Passion Red.

Yes, 05 trim fits on an 04
, here is photographic evidence

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks.

I hadn't thought about different color trim as an accent, although my R is black. Dark blue off the non-R like a Nordkap? Eh.

And it was actually a two part question. I am considering an aftermarket number cover.

Is there a thread for this car?
I believe that's MTE's psycho test mule. You can find a few YouTube vids of Marco going ape **** with it.

There are only a few aftermarket replacement bumpers for our R. Here's the definitive list and Rated by what I think looks good and right for the R. (you be the judge)

Iridium front bumper - Only available from Sweden (Realcar.se). Fitment unknown, nobody in North America(that we know) has this yet. Made from fiberglass reenforced Plastic.
DevolvR Rating: 8.5/10

It also has front splitters, but I think it's a bit over the top.

Elevate/ Evolve Front bumper - Fitment sucks, material droops. PolyUrethane.
DevolvR Rating: 7/10

CHAGAutoSports Wide Body Front bumper - Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber. Race grade. Fitment: Excellent
DevolvR Rating: 6/10

JGTC Front Bumper (full body) - Looks like a JDM bumper. Fitment for S60, not R.
DevolvR Rating: 5/10

BluePower.SE Catfish Front bumper - Fitment is better than elevate, but does not come with install instructions. Was not designed for the R. ABS plastic.
DevolvR Rating: 4.5/10

BluePower.SE Snow Shovel Front Bumper - Nobody has installed this yet in North America (good god!). This bumper has potential, but needs to be modified to look more sensible.
DevolvR Rating: 4/10

Twin? Nah.

Just want to be able to take you down at Infineon in a few weeks. Everybody knows that painted side moldings are worth a few HP++ -- that's why Volvo added them for later model years.

Not true. 2001-2004 was when Volvo cars had black trims. Our original Rs are based on the 2001 design of the S60.
Cars in similar segments had black accent trims including: 1999-2003 BMW e46 before refresh, 2002-2004 SAAB 9-3s, 2002-2004 Audi A4s had the black lower rocker panels.
