I bought my car used about 6 months ago and I love it. The last month I have been experiencing a little back fire when I get on it a little. Has anyone else had this going on?

Re: 2004 s60 r backfire (atlterp)

This is very normal for every R. Mine pops all the time and I can command it to pop by throttle input just before shifting....
Kevin

I've owned it for a month and think it did it once in 1st gear. Mine also doesn't 'burble' as much as other owners have noted theirs do. Maybe MY06 R's don't do it as much as 04/05's do. There was a big dabate about this a couple months back about weather or not Volvo designed this sound into the system.
We aslo debated the symantics of what to call this sound (backfire, pop, ping, bang, burp, friggincoolexhaustnoice, etc.)... but lets not go back 'there'
LTA
okay, sounds good, I took off from work the other day and gave it some. The guys at work heard it as well and it sounded like a GT race car pop. I wonder if it has a cool flame when it's dark, lol

With that said, I notice it much more with the aftermarket DP and Cat-back. When stock it was only occasionnal.....I also have never had the volvo ECU change that many have had here either, so who knows?
Otherwise, I don't mind the "pop" as I always thought it was inherent to the car and just a by-product of the engine. I don't think it's by design though, otherwise we would see problem posts saying that their R doesn't "pop" anymore, what is wrong with my car or the opposite. lol
anyways, the 04 R seem to pop very often, I can't speak for the other newer revised R from 05+.
Kevin
Any time I modified exhaust in other cars the backfire and burble become more prevalent.
Thanks for the extra info, it makes a difference.
LTA
Would be nice if you put that in your signature along with any other special things about your car. I always hated long signatures with all the details, etc, thought they were too cheesy. But in practice, it's a useful thing since it makes following threads and what everyone is talking about and dealing with much easier.
