I am new to the Volvos and recently purchased a 2004 C70 and love it. I have read about software updates and am wondering about the following: Can the interior lights be configured to shut off after a certain length of time to avoid draining the battery? Can the headlights be configured to automatically come on, only when it's dark?

Headlights no - there is no sensor for that in this generation of the C70 to make that determination. Assuming your in the US (Canadian configured cars can't do this), there is a little screw that you can turn that will set the daytime running lights to be off or on depending on your preference though. But then you have to specifically turn the headlight switch to turn on the headlights.

Interior lights all light up when you open the door or unlock the car and they go off after you shut the door and put the key in or lock the door if you're outside the car. If you're outside the car and don't lock the car, then there is a timed delay for when the lights go off. You might be able to configure that delay with the software.

If you flip the switches for each light they will not turn off until you flip the switch. Are your interior lights not turning off?

I have adjusted the little screw to turn off DRL (I am in the US), but prefer to not have to manually turn the light switch on at night.

The interior lights shut off as normal, but I keep coming home, sitting in the garage playing with the car and I'll leave an overhead light(s) on and it eventually wears the battery down. Might be time for a new battery.

The guy at the stealership was going to check to see if there were any downloads for the car but never got back with me.

Is there any easy way to determine what if any downloads are available?

It is possible to work in the car with the overhead light turned off. Just flip the switch. I generally don't rely on the interior car lighting but instead bring in an electric work light and flashlights to see what I'm working with. Then again, I've never seen my battery go dead from sitting in the car for a few hours with the lights on. Probably is time for a new battery.

Do a search on Volvospeed - with access to the proper Volvo OBDII + VIDA/VADIS tool you can do a number of configurations of the car electronics. Can't recall the extent of them but there were options.
