2003 V70 2.4S Auto

So here is the latest edition to the fleet.

It's actually going to be my wife's car but I've a feeling that if all goes to plan it may be a little project of mine too.

She currently drives a year old Ford B-Max and even though it's a lovely little motor and suits her and the children perfectly it's also costing us £200 per month and she's done a little ove 2k miles in one year. Seems silly paying finance really.

So instead we bought a barge :) £2000, FSH, 100k miles, 12 months MOT and so far I can see only cosmetic faults. Though I've yet to get it checked over properly (probably this week) and I also need to speak to the garage near Birmingham that previously looked after it.

The car is so smooth it's ridiculous, I love the 5 cylinder petrol and auto 'box. It made light work of the trip from Stevenage to Sheffield the day I picked it up and is better on fuel than my XC90.

All in all very pleased.

(Forgive the copy/paste from the UK VOC, couldn't really bring myself to type it all again :D)

Beautiful! I really miss my 2003 2.4 NA, fantastic car and it never, ever came close to letting my down, not once!

I wish I could find a 5 speed here, I would get rid of my VR for a 2007 V70 2.4 5speed

Congratulations

Agreed. I'm very happy with my 2.4 as well. It's torquey around town and the 5 cylinder make nice noises.

I really want to do the JRL mod (resonator delete) but I'm worried it'll be too loud and droney for a family hauler

A little update.

Tuesday was the first day I could get the V70 over to someone who could cast an expert eye over it. Since posting the above a bit of detective work led me to realise the history wasn't quite as good as I'd originally thought. Nothing terrible but enough for me to get it booked in for a proper fettle rather than just a look over.

So now I'm £600 lighter after a full 1 year/12k mile service plus plugs, air and pollen filters, brake fluid, timing belt kit, OSF lower wishbone arm, NSF CV boot, tracking and engine top mount. And now it drives even better than before :D I knew I'd have to spend on it so I'm not upset. I still think I've paid a fair price for a good car.

So now it's just "optional extras" and cosmetic stuff. I've started with some bits of trim from a scrapyard to replace stuff that was tatty or broken (dash air vents, centre console cupholders, B pillar seat belt trim, drivers side wing mirror) and I've also fitted Isofix today too. The Parrot Bluetooth mysteriously started working so I don't need to worry about that and I need to get a quote for rear parking sensors before my wife will go near it.

And that's where we are...

I've been quoted around £180 fitted with colour coded sensors. We do some business with a body shop that can install them so I might be able to bring that down a little.

Isofix was a doddle btw

I'm interested in how the parking sensor install goes!
It went very well because I paid someone else to do it :D

Apologies for the tatty looking bumper. Needs a bit of a clean and the photo makes it look worse than it is.

I really should keep this thread up to date. Ever bugger else has a build thread. Anyhoo, the car got a wash today. By hand and by me. Every six months whether it needs it or not!

I've noticed that the dye I put on the black trim is coming off where the local car wash place spray the TFR hence me doing it. Heavy filters and effects hide it and the scratches...

So many little jobs have been done now, I'm really quite pleased with myself :D

Looks great! What do you use on the trim?

It's that dye I mentioned in A.N.Other thread. Wurth Plastic Dyer Plast-PT. It's a 75ml tube that you apply with a sponge, cloth or brush. Worked wonders on ours but there must have been something on the side trim because I had to re-apply, it wasn't the TFR. No problems with the front and rear though. Still looks like new.

I've given the car at bit of a clean and taken pics for eBay. Here they are.

Up close the car is a little tatty around the edges but I think mechanically it's in excellent nick. Since getting it I've had the big service plus cambelt, 4 new Pirellis, fixed or replaced numerous bits of trim and fitted Isofix and the roof bars. A bit of a shame really but I just can't justify keeping it :(

Well I've finally got around to doing one of the ads :( Here it is in case there are any UK based members looking for a new "wagon" as you colonials say...

Haven't had it long (August last year) but selling already. Reason? I've bought another one!

Long and short of it is that I have been well and truly bitten by the V70 bug and just had to splash a bit more and buy another. I now spend more time driving the V70s than my XC90. But unfortunately I just can't justify keeping three Volvos and one has to go. Hanging on to this one until Harry passes his driving test (in 10 years) was a weak attempt prompting that look from SWMBO.

As you can see, just over 101,800 miles and a standard 2003 (2004MY) V70 S. As far as I know the only option was the Black Sapphire Metallic. The bodywork does have some scuffs, dents and scrapes but the interior is in fine fettle. Since I got it I've added, replaced or repaired anything that wasn't right. Everything works though I do occasionally get the Alarm Service Required warning. It doesn't bother me, might bother you. I have discussed this vehicle at length on here so more information is available courtesy of the search button. The specifics are
  • 2003 (2004MY)
  • 102,000 miles
  • 2 previous keepers though actually the same person (private and business)
  • Full service history - service book fully stamped by main dealers and specialists
  • 4x brand new Pirelli Cinturato All Seasons (less than 500 miles)
  • Rear parking sensors fitted
  • Roof rails fitted
  • MOT until 16th August 2016
  • Serviced in September 2015

Service specifics carried out at 100,216 09/15 are
  • New OSF lower arm (NSF fitted 08/15)
  • New NSF outer CV gaitor
  • Brake fluid changed
  • New engine top mount
  • Full scheduled service including filters and spark plugs
  • New timing belt kit
Note that the tints are not factory fitted. If they're not to your liking they are removable. Also note that elsewhere I mentioned fitting the Volvo Isofix brackets. These have now been removed.

This was bought for my wife to use so had to be a good reliable car. Comfort, safety and reliability were my priorities, I wasn't going to let her drive around with my kids in a car that could go pop at any moment. With everything I've spent since if I'm honest with myself I'll admit that at £2k back in August 2015 I paid too much for it. Benefit of hindsight and all that. But with the work I've had done I think £2000 ONO is now a fair price.

The car is in Sheffield (S3 8AG) and will be advertised elsewhere.

Well it appears that I've been banned from the UK forums. So that was a waste of time. Never been banned from anything before. The infamy!

Multiple accounts. Two in fact. One that I used when I first joined and another I created after I stopped posting there and just viewed the V70 section. I logged on using the original username to post the ad and then viewed the forum later using the other. Whichever Chrome remembered tbh. Anyhoo, obviously some flag was raised and when I went to check for replies to the ad I got a "You've been banned" page.
