If you had a S-Type R and a base XJ, and asked which car people thought cost more, most would point to the XJ. It's all about the look too. It's kind of like people buying the flashyness of a MB, but it's the classic image of the Jaguar sedan. It's just updated. They probably kept the XJ alive for another 7 years before they need to do a major redesign. I think it's great. Finally someone did something right. I love that blue color too.
[This message has been edited by omega6_virus (edited 09-15-2002).]

I agree, that classic Jag shape is timeless. Ultra familiar which is what Jag needs to stay alive and well. It would be too dicy to come out with a new look right now.

Keeping the same style was their goal. They wanted something that still evoked the thought of the original XJ line on first look.
It IS all new though (almost hard to believe, but you have to really really pay attn)

In any case, i think this is an all aircraft aluminum unibody ...supposedly much more complex than that of the Audi A8 Aluminum spaceframe to manufacture (I can't imagine repair costs for accidents!)

Insurance costs for this new XJ are going to be outrageous. The Acura NSX along with the Audi A8 have some of the highest insurance claims in the industry. I have even heard of body shops that won't even touch these cars.
But, I guess that if you can afford these type of cars, then you can afford the insurance that goes along with it.
-Drew

Although, it's much harder to get a door ding, as the aluminum is less prone to that.
The styling is definitely more...cat like. Better proportions on this, more sporty looking.
My only beef is that the old XJ6 design, as rockin as it is, is overdone with the X-type and the new XJ. I think they should do something more groundbreaking and less retro on the next X-type.
