Nissan officials have said that they are developing a car that is reportedly going to compete next year in the 2003 AMLS - America Le Mans Series in the GT class using the VQ35DE V6 engine from the new Z car. This is the real NISMO Z33 Fairlady-Z GT shown below, it might look something like this:

Specs:
Overall Length: 4310 mm
Overall Width 1905 mm
Wheelbase: 2650 mm
Tread Front: 1580 mm
Tread Rear: 1580 mm
Car Weight: 1100 kg
Engine: VQ35DE
Capacity: 3572 cc
Bore: 96.5 mm
Stroke: 81.4 mm
Power: 444 hp / 8000 rpm
Torque: 311 lb.ft / 7000rpm
Fuel System: ECCS-NDIS
Clutch: 5-D5
Transmission: 6-Speed H-Pattern
Drive System: 2 Wheel-Drive(Midship/Rear)
Tyres Front: 280/710/R18
Rear: 280/710/R18
Wheels Front: 18 x 11
Rear: 18 x 11
ALMS boss Scott Atherton says there are discussions with another manufacturer from Japan ready to sign up for ALMS, which will most likely be Mazda with their new RX-8.

I would love to see both of these cars running around the track, that would be very sweet indeed. Volvo needs to get their C40/C50 Coupe going as well, when it comes around.
-Drew
[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 08-06-2002).]

Kinda cool, but as much as I think that engine got lots potential...still a bit doubtful on how it would do competing with the big boys.

So very true.
But we will probably see better action in GT before LMP unfortunately. Either that or ALMS will have to switch to all short courses which are more favorable to the Panoz cars.

quote:
Originally posted by GrecianVolvo:
Yeah, them and Audi.
Yannis

Supposedly in an interview, Derek Bell suggested Porsche would be back in prototype in two years. We'll see. By then, the Audi factory team will be gone and Joest will be available again.
I'd like to see Aston go into GT, and maybe Audi with their new S4 coupe when it arrives. Since a V8 in that is likely, it wouldn't be too hard to imagine.

Audi and Porsche both need some good competition. My eyes would be glued if some 350Z's and RX-8's were mixing it up a bit.
The VQ35DE making 444hp in normally aspirated form is a great start for Nissan IMHO. This thing should have some huge potential with Twin-Turbo's.
-Drew
