Well, it has been about 4 days since I reinstalled my demo's ECU after I received it from iPd where it was flashed.
After 4 days of driving the car, I must say that I have enough experiances t post a qualified opinion:
My demo is a Silver/Graph L 2002 S60 AWD with Cold Weather and Premium packages plus 17" Thor alloys. I have also installed a spoiler from http://www.spoilerdepot.com. The odometer reads 1,566 miles so I am keeping this car until about 6,000 miles before I make it available for sale!
Right after I installed the ECU, I drove around at fairly average speeds for about 4 miles or so until the car was fully warmed up. Once it was, I started to push it, progressively. I must admit that the 1st gear was totally unimpressive. I noticed somewhat of an improved "kick" during 2nd and 3rd gear. I was definitely thinking of calling Scott Hart, at iPd, to ask him if they really upgraded the ECU, perhaps they made a mistake and also questioning the wisdom of spending so much money for such little difference. But, I decided to wait it out a bit...don't know why but I did!
Anyway, traffic was pretty heavy on the way home so I did not really push it. Next day, I left a bit early to go to work, so I had plenty of opportunities to push the car under different circumstances. The car was a lot faster! I don't know how and why but it was! Again, 1st gear was somewhat improved but not impressive. But 2nd gear was drastic and 3rd....it felt like I was driving a stock T-5! Also, accelerating while I was in 4th (downshifting to 3rd) or 5th (downshifting to 4th) was dramatic! Now, I was impressed! On the way back home, at the end of my work day, the car was a bit faster! So, I guess it took 2 days or so for the car to feel what I thought it was going to be! That was strange because my own car did not have this "adjustment" period.
Now, the car is a blast to drive especially at higher speeds! It gets up to 80 or 90mph in no time!
I must mention one thing, though. I have now driven many iPd-upgraded Volvos; a 1997 850 T-5, 1998 S/V and C70s, 1999 XCs, 2001 XCs, an S60 T-5 and a V70 T-5 (my car) and now a 2002 S60 AWD, some with or without an exhaust upgrade. The 2001 and 2002 models feel far superior than the earlier Volvo models....don't know why but the newer Volvo models feel like the iPd upgrade has totally transformed the cars. And among the engines, the LPT engines feel quite faster but the T-5 engines (S60 and my car) have posted unbelievable gains!
Can't wait to drive the S60 tomorrow, on my way to work and in the...snow! Hehehehe!
Yannis
