Well, it has been about 4 days since I reinstalled my demo's ECU after I received it from iPd where it was flashed.
After 4 days of driving the car, I must say that I have enough experiances t post a qualified opinion:
My demo is a Silver/Graph L 2002 S60 AWD with Cold Weather and Premium packages plus 17" Thor alloys. I have also installed a spoiler from http://www.spoilerdepot.com. The odometer reads 1,566 miles so I am keeping this car until about 6,000 miles before I make it available for sale!
Right after I installed the ECU, I drove around at fairly average speeds for about 4 miles or so until the car was fully warmed up. Once it was, I started to push it, progressively. I must admit that the 1st gear was totally unimpressive. I noticed somewhat of an improved "kick" during 2nd and 3rd gear. I was definitely thinking of calling Scott Hart, at iPd, to ask him if they really upgraded the ECU, perhaps they made a mistake and also questioning the wisdom of spending so much money for such little difference. But, I decided to wait it out a bit...don't know why but I did!
Anyway, traffic was pretty heavy on the way home so I did not really push it. Next day, I left a bit early to go to work, so I had plenty of opportunities to push the car under different circumstances. The car was a lot faster! I don't know how and why but it was! Again, 1st gear was somewhat improved but not impressive. But 2nd gear was drastic and 3rd....it felt like I was driving a stock T-5! Also, accelerating while I was in 4th (downshifting to 3rd) or 5th (downshifting to 4th) was dramatic! Now, I was impressed! On the way back home, at the end of my work day, the car was a bit faster! So, I guess it took 2 days or so for the car to feel what I thought it was going to be! That was strange because my own car did not have this "adjustment" period.
Now, the car is a blast to drive especially at higher speeds! It gets up to 80 or 90mph in no time!
I must mention one thing, though. I have now driven many iPd-upgraded Volvos; a 1997 850 T-5, 1998 S/V and C70s, 1999 XCs, 2001 XCs, an S60 T-5 and a V70 T-5 (my car) and now a 2002 S60 AWD, some with or without an exhaust upgrade. The 2001 and 2002 models feel far superior than the earlier Volvo models....don't know why but the newer Volvo models feel like the iPd upgrade has totally transformed the cars. And among the engines, the LPT engines feel quite faster but the T-5 engines (S60 and my car) have posted unbelievable gains!
Can't wait to drive the S60 tomorrow, on my way to work and in the...snow! Hehehehe!
Yannis

Thanks for the post Yannis. So just to clarify, you're saying the LPT is a more dramatic difference than the T-5, not that the LPT might feel faster period....right?
Thanks for sharing the source on the spoilers also.

My point was that among all cars, in the newer models (2001 and up) the iPd ECU upgrade (with or without the sport exhaust) has meant higher gains, especially in torque.
The T-5 models become (especially in the newer P2X cars) MONSTERS! Whereas 1998 and 1999 cars (or earlier 850 models) with the HPT engine, they improve quite a bit but not as drastically as the 2001+ models.
Yannis

The ECU upgrade costs (I think) $990; I got it for less since I work for a Volvo Retailer and we do more than a few upgrades.
They state that, w/ the ECU and exhaust upgrade, the HP increase should go from 197 to 230 a gain of 33); I figure that without the exhaust I am probably pushing 220.
I don't think that there is a "stage II" upgrade.
Yannis

She managed to sell it for $32,990 plus tax/tags. It is Silver Metallic/Graphite leather with Premium package, Cold Weather package and 17" Thor alloys. It has an aftermarket spoiler and the iPd ECU upgrade.
I have got to pick a new demo for me tomorrow; I will choose, I guess, between and S60 2.4 M with sunroof (would love to but the n/a engine does not give me too many options for upgrading), an S80 T-6 or an XC70.
Yannis

quote:

Dang! Already? When are they suppose to be picking up the car? That's a great combo right there.

Yeah, I did not expect that as I thought that I would keep the car for, at least, another month or close to 5,000 miles (it has 2,660). But, we are completely out of 2002 AWDs and at that price we are making a fair profit plus I do not have to worry about the car later on!

quote:
I can see you driving an S80 T-6.

Oh, really? And how did you arrive at that? (just teasing you)...

quote:
I think you would be tired of the raised height of the XC70 after a bit.

Quite possibly...I have refused, so far, to have had as demos 2001 and 2002 XCs as the tire noise was too much for me plus I thought they were under powered for the way I drive (although the 2002 models felt and were quicker than 2001s) and I agree with you about the increased height. Plus I do own a wagon, anyway. I am kind of torn between the T-6 (not fond of its "thirsty" engine, though) and a 2003 S60 AWD although the 2003 XC70 is intriguing because of the torquier 2.5T engine, tinted windows plus the new Pirelli Scorpions are less aggressive which means that the annoying noise is gone!
Yannis

Hrm..I did not know that. I rented a 2002 XC and didn't have any problems with tire noise on the highway. I think it had Michelins on it. If you like the AWD, I say get the S60 AWD. Just that it seems to be the best for you from what you are saying.
Just let us know if you plan on putting any IPD mods into her.
RJ

Re: 2002 S60 AWD w/ iPd ECU upgrade (GrecianVolvo)

I saw ECU upgrade for S60 2.4T at EuroTuning for $799.99 which boost from 197hp to 250hp (stated at EuroTuning website).......is it the same as the ECU u purchased at IPD???? If so, how come the hp gain has such a big difference???
